Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo - This collection concerns the Asociación Civil Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo (Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo). Founded in 1977 this human rights organization is dedicated to locating children kidnapped during Argentina’s military dictatorship between 1976 and 1983.
Ricardo Miguel Cavallo - This collection concerns documents on former Argentine military officer Ricardo Miguel Cavallo who is accused of carrying out human rights violations during Argentina’s military dictatorship between 1976 and 1983.
Undersecretary Newsom’s 1978 visit to Argentina - this collection consists of documents relating to the visit to Argentina in May 1978 by Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs David Newsom. During the visit, Undersecretary Newsom met with Lieutenant General Rafael Videla, President of Argentina from 1976 to 1981. President Videla’s government was responsible for human-rights abuses during Argentina’s “dirty war,” which resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians.
Argentina Declassification Project - In response to nine separate requests for information on human rights abuses in Argentina during the military dictatorship in that country (1976 - 1983), the Department of State Reviewed files from the 1975 through 1984 period and identified 4,677 documents for release in full or in part, redactions were made for reasons of personal privacy, national security and foreign relations, including protection of confidential sources.
