Predeceased by his first wife, Maria, 1980, infant daughter, parents: Alex and Jessie Abbott; brothers: Earnest & Donald; sisters: Alice Abbott, Myrtle Durdle and Ethel Mifflin of Bonavista, and stepdaughter: Lorna Hayward. Leaving to mourn his wife Elizabeth, daughter: Marie (Doug), Linthorne, Clarenville; son: Kenneth (Marie), St. Louis, P.E.I.; his precious and cherished granddaughter: Dr. Krista (Tom) Brown (Linthorne) of St. John's; stepdaughters: Eileen (Bernard) Woods, Bedford, N.S., Edith (Albert) Sweetland, Halifax, N.S.; step-granddaughters: Carolyn, Kim and Karen; several nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away, in the presence of her loving family, at the Lion's Manor Nursing Home, Placentia, on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 Louisa Anderson of Chance Cove in her 87th year. Predeceased by her husband James; Infant son Ivan and granddaughter Trudyann. Leaving to mourn 2 daughters: Judy Boland (Karl), Outer Cover; Lydia Hewlett (Eric) Embree; five sons: Stuart (Lynn) Hamilton, Ont; Roy (Bernice), Chance Cove; Kevin (Fronie), Arnold's Cove; Berkley (Christine), Chance Cove; Ivan (Maxine), Bellevue Beach; one sister Edith Hann (Wilson); two step-sisters: Myrtle Anderson, Edith Hann (Harry); one step-brother Kenneth Upshall (Betty); sixteen grandchildren. Also lovingly remembered by a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at the Church of the Ascension, Chance Cove, from where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 24th at 2:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Church of the Ascension Cemetery. ARSNEAU, Austin David - Passed peacefully away, after a lengthy illness, on July 19, 2004, Austin David Arsneau, 80 years of age of St. John's, Newfoundland, formerly of Maccan, Cumb. Co., Nova Scotia, where he played hockey for the Maccan Flyers. Beloved son of the late Frank Arsneau and Annie (Hurley) Arsneau. Also predeceased by his brothers: Gilbert and John, and his wife Eleanor. He leaves to mourn his daughters: Dianne (Rod Penner), Annie (Robbie), Sharon (Aubrey Motty), with whom he resided, Debbie Pest, Sheila (David), Susie (Adrian); ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; four sisters: Dorothy, Jean, Stella, Emma; two brothers: Harry and Danny; as well as many other relatives and friends. Member of the 166th Newfoundland Field Regiment, R.A. and Legion Branch 56. Predeceased by his wife Frances (Hobbs), 1996. Left with fond and loving memories two sons: Tolson (Charlotte) and Wayne (Valerie); two brothers: Bryan, Buchans and Howard (Ruby), Black River; six grandchildren: Jane, Peter, Anne, Phillip, Elizabeth (Alex Mathieson) and Reid and a large circle of other relatives and friends. BASTOW, Douglas F. - Passed peacefully away following a long illness, in Vancouver, B.C. on July 10, 2004; age 80. Son of the late Hugh A. and Mabel Bastow. Survived by his wife Elizabeth (Chafe), his sons Paul and David and their families, brother-in-law Elliott Chafe all in B.C.; and by sisters Ruth Miller (St. Luke's), Aileen Martin (Chancellor Park) and by brother Gordon (Mardi) in Manuels. Also by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces and friends coast to coast. Predeceased by brothers Gerald H. and David A. Cremation has taken place. Predeceased by his sisters: Gertrude Gregory, Lillian Parsons, Selena (Doll), Gregory; brothers Jim Best, Llewellyn Best, John (Jack) Best. Left to celebrate his life and mourn his passing, wife Gwendolyn (nee Parsons), one son Douglas (Judy) Best; grandchildren: Kimberly (Paul) Best-Janes, Andrew Best; great-grandchildren: Nathan & Lauren Best-Janes; one sister: Frances (Berkley) Ingram; nieces, nephews and their families: Gordon (Janet) Ingram, Norman (Regina) Ingram, Hilda (Bruce) Wareham, Gwen (Wesley) Warren, Berkley (Evelyn) Best, Neil (Mildred), Best, Don (Daphne) Best, Anita Rose, Greta Rose, Gertrude Andrews, Joan Basic-Andrews, Fred (Violet) Andrews, Lewis (Denise) Andrews, Arch (Selina) Parsons, David Parsons; a large circle of other relatives and friends. He has been an ordained minister with the United Church of Canada since 1961. His Pastoral Charges in Newfoundland included La Scie, Musgravetown, Port aux Basques, King's Point and Clarenville. He provided post-retirement Pastoral duties at Swift Current and Bonavista, Newfoundland. Additionally he performed Pastoral duties at Pointe De Bute, NB; St. Peter's, PEI; Mount Uniak and Halifax (Rockingham), NS. He was a Chaplain with the Royal Canadian Legion, Port aux Basques; a member of the Masonic Order and a member of the Clarenville Rotary Club. He has provided public service over the years as an active member and chairman of several school boards throughout the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Douglas Academy in La Poile is named in his honor. He was elected Mayor of Channel-Port aux Basques by popular vote, but declined the position; preferring to serve solely as a town Councilor. She was predeceased by her husband Martin in 1972. Visitation will take place at the Church of the Good Shephard in Norris Point today, Tuesday, July 27, 2004, where funeral services will take place on Wednesday, July 28th at 2 p.m. with Rev. She is survived by her loving husband Larry and precious eight year old son Daniel; three brothers: Wayne (Min Power), Reg and Robert (Joan Simmons), all of St. John's, NL; three step-brothers: Michael, Dallas, Texas, Wade (Carma), Sundre, AB and Mark (Claudine), Edmonton, AB; grandmother Gladys Rose, Lethbridge, AB; mother-in-law Isabelle Cooper (nee MacLean), Sydney, NS; two sisters-in-law Charlotte (David Redden) and Cathy (Brian Hansen), both of Waverly, NS; as well as long time friends Dena Stone and Mona Hobson, both of St. John's, NL and many numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He loved vacationing at his summer home in Newfoundland. KENNEDY, Kevin James - Born in 1932, the loving son of the late Leo Kennedy and Agnes Kennedy (Fitzgerald) from Bell Island, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Oakville-Trafalgar Hospital in Ontario. Remembered as a devoted husband and loving father, he is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen (nee Kennedy), and children, Mary Catherine (Dodds), Walter, Joanne (Dew), Jennifer (Golle) and Agnes (Hobman); and grandchildren Rebecca, Erin, Lindsay, Hayley, Stefanie, Kevin and Aidan. He will also be missed by his sister, Elsie (Russell) and brother, Leo, and the countless family members and friends who have loved him. MARSHALL, Dr. Mary-Anne - Sadly passed away, unexpectedly, in St. John's on July 6th, 2004 at age 38. She was born in Australia and moved to Newfoundland with her family in 1968. She grew up in St. John's and graduated from MUN with an MD in 1991. Employment included many years in Emergency Medicine, first in St. John's and Baie Verte and then in West Virginia. She returned to St. John's in 1999 and worked in her own family practice. She gave birth to a baby girl, Katie in 2001 and she also leaves to mourn her parents Ingeborg and Bill; her brothers Alfred and Christopher and their families, as well as numerous friends and colleagues. Cremation has taken place and family will be receiving visitors at Carnell's Funeral Home on Friday, July 9th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Gower Street United Church on Saturday, July 10th at 10 a.m. and will be followed by interment of ashes in the Anglican Cemetery in St. Philips. NEVILLE, Edna - Edna passed away peacefully, last July 2003 at her home in Welland, Ont., in her 84th year. A lovely Prayer Service was held, followed by cremation. Edna's wish was that her ashes be buried in Newfoundland, in the family plot, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A Funeral Mass and gathering will be held at 9:30 am, July 31, 2004, at Mary Queen of the World Church, Mount Pearl. Edna was born in Donovans, Topsail Rd. She taught at St. Ann's School, Donovans and later worked as an Airline Administrator in Gander, Montreal and Ottawa. Edna retired in 1980 and moved to Welland in 1993 to be near her sisters. She enjoyed traveling back to Newfoundland to visit family and friends. Edna will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Kathleen (Neville) Doyle and Nellie (Neville) Bisson of Welland, and her sister-in-law Violet Neville of Topsail Rd.; as well as by her thirteen nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Denis and Frances Neville, and by her brothers Richard and Robert Neville. In place of flowers, your visit will mean so much to us. POWER, Bridget - Lifted by the spirit of her faith, and surrounded by the love of her family and friends, Bride passed away peacefully at her home in Toronto on Friday evening, July 16, 2004. Born in Conche, White Bay in 1934, Bride left her career to raise her family. In her later years she returned to work as a librarian - the perfect job for someone who loved reading as much as she did. Left to celebrate her life are her loving husband of 49 years, Gerry, and her seven children: Marie (Paul) Nugent, Toronto; Colleen (John) Fitzpatrick, Calgary; Gerard (Joan) Power, Mississauga; Regina (Phil) duToit, Kingston; Brian (Krista) Power, Edmonton; Elizabeth (Kevin) Haverty, Toronto; and Geoff (Sarah) Power, Toronto. Mom will always be in their hearts and in their prayers. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, and their hugs her greatest comfort. She will always be loved and remembered by Adam, Ben, Christopher, Kaelan, Katie and Nicole. Predeceased by her parents, Ronald and Elizabeth Dower, Bride leaves behind her devoted sisters and brother; Sr. Alice Dower; Sr. Mary Dower; Ron (Shirley) Dower; Elizabeth (George) Hawco; her brother-in-law William Power, and their families. Family was her strength and she loved them all as only she could. She also leaves behind extended family and a large circle of special friends in Newfoundland. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 39 years, Carol (Arnott); his three devoted children: Lou-Ann Kelly (Brian), Sean Wakeham (Joan) and Karen Wakeham (Craig); his five cherished grandchildren: Ian, Nicholas and Matthew Kelly and Siobhan and Emily Wakeham. Also survived by his very special brother Thomas Wakeham (Gail), brother: Vincent Wakeham (Betty) and two sisters: Roseann Linehan (Pat) and Mary Taylor (Glenn) and a very special aunt Sister Lillian Wakeham.
