Khoisan demand recognition, land

Pretoria - The Khoisan demanded recognition and that their land claims be addressed in a protest outside the department of rural development and land reform in Pretoria on Tuesday.

The group of about 20 Khoisan was watched by Tshwane metro police as Stephen Katz, of the SA Progressive Civic Organisation, handed a memorandum to a senior department official.

In the memorandum, the group demanded that the Khoisan be recognised as the first indigenous nation in South Africa.

Katz said that according to the South African Constitution, the Khoisan did not exist and he demanded that their land claims be addressed.

"We wish to remind the state president of his statement made at our national consultative conference on 29 March 2001.

"He acknowledged us as the first indigenous nation of South Africa and that we will be granted recognition enabling us to have access to our dispossessed land," Katz said.

Civic organisation AfriForum Youth has issued a statement in support of the Khoisan "against the distortion and denial of the history of minorities".

This is going to get messy. I am keen to see how the invader tribes, justify their land claims with the original people now also joining the party. After all, where do you draw the timeline as to whom is owed what? Apparently it only works as long as the anc benefits. Don't forget that some 200 million year ago, we were all one continent Gondwanaland, so I am sure that some south american indians also have ancestral land rights. Heres a copy and paste for the non believers:
Gondwanaland [g?nd'w??n??lænd], Gondwana n
(Earth Sciences / Geological Science) one of the two ancient supercontinents produced by the first split of the even larger supercontinent Pangaea about 200 million years ago, comprising chiefly what are now Africa, South America, Australia, Antarctica, and the Indian subcontinent

They were here before any of the Bantu black tribes from central and north Africa. They have more claim to this land than any blacks.

Haven't you seen the new book of Gwede Mantashe

There is no way in hell that Black South African ANC government leaders will ever knowledge publicly that the Khoisan are the first indigenous nation in South Africa. It will completely obliterate their land expropriation agenda under the guise that THEIR lands was dis-possessed by the Colonialists and Nationalists.
avatar
Markrschulz February 21, 2012 at 17:34
And, suddenly, the ANC-YL is very happy to follow the Botswanan government's model of how to 'deal with' the 'Bushmen'. Black solidarity is a lie, Shaka and co. pointed that out with an assagai whenever they met these peaceful hunter-gatherers. The enemy of your enemy is not your friend.

I thought Africa and specifically South Africa is the CRADLE OF MANKIND and therefore all humans came from Africa. The mere fact that my forefathers had the ability to migrate from Africa to Europe and back to Africa while the Koi and other races didn't have that ability now give them the right to lay claim to South Africa, I think not. If the Cradle of Mankind history as told by Thabo Mbeki is correct then the Koi and other African races are the weakest branches of the human tree and can most certainly not lay claim to anything because Africa belongs to all humans.

No Khoisan do not owe Pieter Mulder jack...
since 1999, they've quietly organizing themselves, this group is just another of Afriforum mischievous pranks

@Sean
your trying to establish credibility for wayward claims to SA lacks substance. It seems like somehow you want to justify the oppressor weird claims to our beautiful country

@Anthony
actually, the Griqua Royal is joining the National House of Traditional Leaders, and other groups will begin accession talks soon. Also, Zuma promised to help the Khoisan get their status, recognition and land last year. Where have you been? oh, you were busy hating Malema then, no?

@MarkRSchulz
Please stop referring to Africans as Bushmen, please..
With regards to the Botswana government's approach: The Batswana see the Khoisan as their elders (you can go investigate). What the media omits is that they weren't just pushed off the land - they received housing, with electricity and running water. Maybe the flaw was that the means of livelihood, jobs, was never finalized and never seemed to be in the offing. But the Batswana felt pain seeing the Khoisan living like that, and wanted their brethren to live better. I know some might claim it was because diamonds got suddenly discovered on the Khoisan's land. Whatever, Botswana has enough diamond reserves and accounts for a lot of De Beers revenue. Roy Sesana is just a puppet of Amnesty International, who do the imperialist bidding worldwide.

Yes, give the Khoisan land. And how was the SA Constitution approved if it excludes the Khoisan?

avatar

Because the ANC want to rewrite history. They already have claimed the victory against apartheid as their own.
avatar
Clarve February 21, 2012 at 15:07
The constitution doesn't specify any particular race, a major point of it is to end discrimination. The Khoisan are just protected by the constitution as any other race group. Whether such protection is carried out in reality is debatable.

Those people who upon their arrival in South African r.@@@@@pd, uprooted & pillaged the Khoisan people should gve up the Land in Northern Cape & Western Cape & gve it back to this guys. Most of the Khoisan (bushmen) in the interior of the country, in areas like Mpumalanga, North-West and KZN were wiped out by the Zulus and the Xhosa tribes as they migrated South.

caucasians never cease to amaze. Not so long ago they spat on the khoisan and regarded him as a non-entity, after degrading his humanity and stealing his land. Now they see fit to claim that the khoisan 6% contribution to his gene-pool is something to suddenly be proud of? just because Pieter Mulder has plans to rebuild Apartheid and establish a new volkstaat? I wasn't surprised when I heard those comments, because I've seen the FF+'s volkstaat plans... it's all freely available on the internet. No wonder the 40% supposedly non-Bantu land overlap with the Volkstaat that the insignificant minority dreams of.

If it turns out to be true I will demand the wine farm of my choice. It will be my sole right to choose the wine farm. Nobody else will tell me what I am entitled to. My demand is based on MY bloodline and nobody else has a say over what MY bloodline entitles me to. They never defeated or merchandised my bloodline away from me. It is MINE!

I am disappointed at the Khoisan for having been asleep for so long. Their numbers allows them to claim Western Cape outright through the ballot box. They have so far allowed whites who are a minority here to rule over them. I fully support the full restoration of their rights.
avatar
HiJack February 21, 2012 at 15:30
Yeah, they have allowed whites to rule of them. Don't make it sound like they didn't have a choice. They chose that option, and with the white ruled Western Cape being the best ruled province in SA, they made the right choice. The higher up South Africa you go, the more you hear of corruption and backruptcy. Thanks ANC, thanks Julius.
avatar
Sinudeity February 21, 2012 at 15:31
Before DA took over, the majority of Khoisan allowed themselves to be ruled over by the ANC :P

Guess which party they prefer.
avatar
PointBlank February 21, 2012 at 15:35
@Mpho, sorry to tell you my friend, the land you accused us of stealing just got reclaimed by the khoisan... why? Because you stole it first. We keep telling you that you have no claim to land in SA, but nooooo you won't listen..
avatar
Mpho David Rambuda February 21, 2012 at 15:41
So, they want to claim the other share to hand over to Europeans as they did Western Cape? Take over Western Cape first as this doesn't require any capital outlay (willing seller willing buyer). All it requires is victory at the ballot box, which is guaranteed.
avatar
PointBlank February 21, 2012 at 15:47
Ah so you are scared. Why must they take over the WC first? They were in the other parts of SA first and were pushed into the WC by the rampaging Bantu tribes...

DuToitCoetzee February 21, 2012 at 15:59
My regional/ward member is brown and not painted yesterday. Since birth.

We had a meeting regarding a dangerous crossing and when we both went to survey my claims he listen and promised to come back to me.

I thought of giving him 3 weeks for a proper response, but he jump the gun and two weeks later the construction company started to offload equipment to build the circle.

He than later told me he only had R 500 000 left for that term on road projects in his ward, but seeing the problem, he convince the powers to assist. The circle was in planning, but, not having money, they had to put it on hold. Surveying the problem himself he decide that the possible lost of more life(there were incidents) are a much higher priority than hiding behind the lack of funds.

The circle is the one between Langebergridge RD and Brackenfell Blvd.

According to me he is part of the people who rules this province more successful than others and as I said he is brown of color.

Maybe we, in Western Cape, do not mind who the rulers are anymore, as long as they just do their work properly.

Cosmos - I can assure you that whatever atrocity was committed by white European settlers was matched for millennia by incoming northern Bantu tribes and their xhosa and zulu ancestors. fact is that the khoi san are the true original tribe of southern africa and much of namibia.
avatar
Xavier7034 February 21, 2012 at 15:27
The Khoisan roots go even further north than many people realise:

The History of Zimbabwe is intriguing even to this very day. Across Zimbabwe are rock paintings, that date back more than 5,000 years.

Stone Age hunters, related to the Khoisan people, created the paintings. The Khoisan, or Khoe-San is the name for two major ethnic groups of Southern Africa. The Khoisan originally inhabited much of southern Africa and the Khoisan languages are noted for their click consonants.

Over the centuries, the Khoisan peoples were displaced by the Xhosa and Zulu people, who have adopted some Khoisan clicks in their respective languages.

@Xavier7034

The Khoisan were not the only rock artists...
The missionary John Campbell's drew pictures of Kgosi Senosi's (of the Bahurutshe tribe of the Batswana nation) house's interior... and it's amazing how similar to rock art the Tswana king's paintings are!

The Khoisan were not displaced - have you ever asked yourself why are Blacks in SA/ Botswana/ Swaziland/ Lesotho are lighter and shorter than others? they intermarried for generations. Nelson Mandela, Tony Yengeni, Tutu, Me and many Africans have been proved to be Khoisan descendants.

The clicks weren't adopted, they happened due to active living with Khoisan. Much like how Afrikaans became the only European language with double negation, which it adopted from Khoikhoin.

Rooster Cockadoodledo O O February 21, 2012 at 15:28
Zuma ... the real owners of SA or should I say disadvantaged people have now spoken.
avatar
craig.demontfortbraganca February 22, 2012 at 08:30
I don't think so - this is just a group assembled by Afriforum for mischief. The true Khoisan spoke a long time ago. In fact, the Griqua house is active and about to join the House of Traditional Leaders, under Griqua King Adam Kok V. Others are still ascertaining leadership disputes, reclaiming their khoikhoin, etc. In fact, the Zuma administration is working on Khoikhoin issues as we speak.

Afriforum won't derail a legitimate process initiated by Khoikhoin royalty.

But did you know that all Tswana regiments are led by a Tswana Royal and a Khoi general?

Coloured does not exist boet, its a white Apartheid construct to divide and conquer Africans - but we the Khoisan. These are namely !Xu, !Khwe, Nama/ Namaqua, Hessequa, Outeniqua, etc. They will get their land once they shed their Eurocentric everything and reclaim their Africanness and status as ancestors of South Africa. They won't get it if they'll take it only to hand it back to the oppressor to re-establish apartheid - like the Waterboer Griquas did with the Keate Award, which was wrongly awarded in the first place.

Farmers in Zimbabwe were driven off their land. Now it would seem that in any country peope need food. All this noise is unnecessary if one takes into consideration that people staying on the available farm land must be productive farmers. If not, we will have to import food. How many black people have an agricultural degree. Please stop this stupidity and start thinking what we will do without ou farmers. Other countries are giving land to white farmers for free. Why.
avatar
PointBlank February 21, 2012 at 15:41
36000 White South African farmers are farming in Africa with land GIVEN to them by those countries in an attempt to secure food reserves. China, Brazil and European countries are snapping up HUGE amounts of land in Africa to secure THEIR food reserves...

These Khoisans are dillusional and are riding on the colonial lie that they were there first in South Africa. As far as we are conserned Khoisan do not exist and the first settlers drove them to extinction like the Dodo or the Quagga! Besides they were mere Nomads and can never claim any portion of land because they were all over the place! Africans and Bantu speaking people in particular are the only ones who have a historical right to claim anyland in South Africa!

Somewhere above this statement I just read something about white people not recognising the existence of the khoisan.
Wow let’s look at all the facts.
Not ANC factes, but facts.
Life and land belongs to all of us not just the ANC.
This race debate thing is tiresome, it’s like we are all part of this non ending struggle. I don’t want to struggle it makes no sense to struggle with this nonsense.
It s all mine so get out!!!!
We (black/white/san/etc.) are all led too easily by our noses. If the big baas ANC says something, we are all at each other’s throats. Like good little puppets.
We are not better than that, I agree, but better than them, definitely.
avatar
craig.demontfortbraganca February 22, 2012 at 08:43
@Phumi
its true they were somewhat here first...
but let's not cherry-pick the truth. The present day Xhosa are descendants of the Khoisan-Xhosa called the Chobona, who are the true overlords of the cape. The Khoikhoin in the Cape told Jan van Riebeeck that they are they Chobona's people, and that they are simply taking care of the territory for the Chobona and his lieutenants. They also mentioned the Chobona polity's wealth - which had Jan van Riebeeck salivating - and he wanted to lay his hands on the wealth for the Dutch crown. However, the memory of D'Almeida attempt to steal the Cape Khoi's wealth were still fresh in their minds, and they led Jan van Riebeeck's scouts astray. But JvR took detailed notes, as he believed that maybe several ancient cities lie beyond the Cape, which Simon van der Stel diligently referred to. The Tshawe lineage of the Xhosa royalty descents from the Chobona, and khoisan royal lineage of Autshomato (who led the first colonial uprising against the Dutch) descends the Hamcumqua who was the stewart in the Cape of the Chobona.

The oppressor's attempts to separate brothers and sisters may have worked in the past, but will never work again.

your highly ignorant or simply interest in what affects your own skin.
The khoikhoin were never silent. The Griqua Royal House is in full operation, the Outeniqua, the Hessequa are busy organizing. The National Khoi Council is in full swing.

There's just one impediment to the noble efforts - the khoikhoin have been royally indoctrinated to think that they're coloured and were shun everything Afrikan - y'all know who did that. But they are slowly regaining their Africanness back, and with that they are beginning to feel pride in their Khoisan identity. The previous regime created the coloured identity in order to nullify whatever land claims they may have, and now their descendants are supporting twenty guys they bought off the streets?

I'm sorry to say this...white people sometimes don't look back at their bleached history when making comments about this country. They forgot the pain and humiliations they brought to bushmen tribes.

@azanian - you certainly have a chip on your shoulder. I cant figure out whether you're just a racist or whether you you have some inferiority complex. After all a greater civilisation came and conquered the weaker.

Jo, you guys can get worked up.

No, the Mulders of history were not part of the Sarah Baartman exhibition. If I recall correctly it was the French.(Or was it the British. Sjoe, I should go to bed.lol) I can be wrong and quickly look it up, but the fact remain that it was the same aristocrats that the common Afrikaner/Boers/Settlers/slaves/free-blacks etc, were rebellion against. She "apparently" had enormous genitals and that was the main reason for display and sexual misuse. Still disgusting.

Yes, the whites killed a lot of Bushman. It is also a know fact that the Bushmen operated in group/gangs by luring the man away and killed the women and children on barbaric ways. They have done that to the black tribes as well. There were even a well known leader, but once again it skipped my mind.(to sleepy)

I will not comment on any of those saying they were good or bad(not talking of Sarah B. issue) because I was not in those situations and in their shoes, but what I would like to say is that there are skeletons everywhere and one should start concentrating on the future, This history fight is still going to swallow us all while the West and the East are reaping our country's benefits.

No, William. Bushmen as well. Stop only relying on Wikipedia and study more old authentic scrips. Also do the effort to find out the difference between the Bushmen today and those of the past. When done, also following their epic treks through Namaqwaland and other areas. You will also find some reference, of there actions, when you study the Namas's history as well. Good luck.

John Loveland says... Because of its proximity, being so close inshore, it also becomes a risk to sports people like kite-surfers, small power craft and surfers. Especially as it begins to break up and becomes less visible above the surface. Read the article...
