New Blog. New Home. Old Me
My previous blog, Greetings From L.A. (via Philadelphia) was going to become Greetings From L.A., when I moved back to Los Angeles. But a funny thing happened, I didn’t move back to Los Angeles. Craig got a job in Silicon Valley/ The Peninsula/The South Bay (I’m still figuring out what my new area is officially called) We live in San Mateo, which is about 30 minutes south of San Francisco. This will be my third cross-country move and I’m not making any declarations yet. I hated Philly when I arrived. And now I miss it…go figure. I’ll be honest, while I LOVED Los Angeles, I like Northern California. However, I’m going to be mature and remember that I am thirty something, and I’m going to give this move time. The weather is fantastic: 75 and sunny most days. The local library is lovely and has lots of space. My kids are happy.(I’m not taking this part lightly) I’ve already been to Sonoma and Carmel, two beautiful places, and I can walk to whole foods.I’m pretty sure the missing part of the puzzle is having friends. If I sound sad, I’m not. Knowing this is the last move actually makes everything easier. Plus I have a lot of places to visit now. I can’t wait to go back to Philadelphia.
I’m in my car a lot. Remember in Philly it took me a year to drive three minutes to Trader Joe’s on Market street? Here, I drive on the 92 and the 101 (don’t I sound super knowledgeable?) All this driving means I’m listening to the radio, like xm’s channel 2 – (lots of Katy Perry) and XM channel 3 (lots of acoustic Jewel), And when I’m alone, I listen to the 90′s on xm 9, which plays U2′s “one” and other songs that transport me back in time to all the angst ridden moments of 199o’s.
At night, just like always, I turn on the TV to see The Real Housewives of New York. I’m a little tired of this season. Aviva’s fake leg seems to be the 7th housewife. How many times did they replay her falling down a flight of stairs, which consisted of one stair? But I tune in because I am obsessed by Carole Radizwell. The Princess/journalist/bohemian/ traveler/sexy widow. Just like I wanted RHBH Kyle’s hoop earrings, I want Carole’s cape. I love her story about how she went to London to visit a friend and didn’t return to NYC for five years. What about rent? walking the dog? picking up the mail? I guess when you are a Princess Bohemian, these are minor things that only mortals need to deal with. Ms. Radziwell, has this “whatever” sort of vibe. I think this is something that you acquire over the years, like shredded sweaters and floppy hats. I’d like to be more snarky about her, but I can’t. I think she’s very cool, except that she chose to be on this show.
Across the Hudson river, The Real Housewives of NJ has more “real” drama. I mean who isn’t waiting to find out what happens in Napa? Teresa and Joe are ready to explode. And Kathy is definitely looking for trouble when she accused Teresa of stealing her mom’s recipes. I know it was a few episodes back, but my favorite RHNJ moment, is when Rosie, comes out to her niece and nephew that she is a Lesbian. It was probably one of the most touching TV moments ever. The second most touching moment is when Kathy and Rosie’s mom recalls, in her heavy Italian accent, when she was dropped off to an Aunt’s house at 5 years old never to live with her parents again. I cried…sorta, I had feelings like I wanted to cry and my eyes watered.
Finally I have to make a mention of my friends L.A. based company Kitsch. I feel very stylish when I wear these hair ties, either on stacked my wrist or tying back my hair. I’m a convert, I will no longer buy regular hairbands from the pharmacy.
