The SHAREBOOK Project 18. May. 2010

I’ve always considered myself a life long learner. Sometime I learn from books, sometime it’s a hands on project, but I think I learn most from other people – from conversation – from sharing. With this in mind (and my passion for books), I’ve decided I want to do a little project. The SHAREBOOK Project.

I will take 10 or more old books- from give away piles, and quarter sales- and I will transform them. I will glue 2 or 3 pages together in order to make the surface more sturdy. I will cover the pages with Gesso and/ or India ink to create a blank slate for other creations. I will write the first letter explaining the purpose of the projects, some tips, and a few guidelines. I will then send them out around the world!

I will create a few guidelines/ rules in order to make this project more successful, but when it comes to creating your page(s), let your imagination run wild. Draw pictures, write a letter, give some advice, share a story, give words of wisdom, use paint, pastels, stamps, cloth, paper, glue……you get the point.

This project is about communication, bringing people together, and sharing. An idea can’t grow if you don’t share it. This is about creating cultural understanding, love for your fellow world citizens, and a creative community!

I will also create a Blog for this project, where people can share their entries. You may scan your entry, type what you wrote, or share even more in this blog. The blog is obviously not required to do the project, but I thought it would be a good idea to open it up to the people who never come across the book, or for people who want to see entries that come after theirs.

Put your thinking caps on folks…..

Idea – Who’s in? 17. May. 2010

I’ve decided to take an old book, cover the pages with some gesso and/ or india ink.  When the pages have a blank slate again, I will write an entry.. put some pictures in the first one or two pages.. then PASS IT ON! Interested in passing on some ideas, insights, thoughts, pictures?

LET’S DO IT.

Let me know if you’re interested. This could be really cool. This could be really big.

do something more practical! 17. May. 2010

This morning my grandfather sat next to me and told me that what i was doing was nice, but I needed to be a little more practical. You like politics, right? And you can speak German, right? Well, learn Spanish, get your Masters in International Business or Law and make something of yourself! I didn’t object. I just nodded politely and indifferently. People are allowed to give you suggestions, they can’t really force you to do anything you don’t want to do. Where do we draw the line? What is practicality anyhow..

OR OR OR OR.

No limits.. wait.. be respectful.

a fresh start? 16. May. 2010

GRADUATION!.. an ending.. a beginning.. reflecting back.. looking forward. I’m back at the parents place, but it happens to be in an unfamiliar place.. Colorado. I left dear old Minnesota to arrive in a foreign land. Friends far away. No job (no money). No car. Four younger siblings (ages 15, 12,2,2). Boring. BUT a beautiful view, good hiking, studio (ish) space, and a hobby lobby right down the street. No, this is not my dream position.. to apply for any job that will hire me just so I can pay off some loans. No, I do not like my mother telling me to open my curtains and make my bed. No, I do not like how having not-a-whole-lot-to-do has made me less motivated. Why has Danielle-Who-Never-Sleeps turned into Danielle-Who-Sleeps-Til-Noon? My point is that this situation isn’t ideal, but I’m going to do with it what I can. I have an interview next week, I am still creating, and I’m definitely learning some new things about myself.. and some other reading-sorts-of-things.
