Government alone cannot not be solved only by the Government: Minister

MUCH NEEDED: Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare T.P.M. Mohideen Khan and Minister for Backward Classes Welfare K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran inaugurating a bio-mass power plant near Sattur on Saturday.

SATTUR: Minister for Backward Classes Welfare K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Minister for Sports T.P.M. Mohideen Khan commissioned a 10-megwatt biomass electricity plant installed by ETA Star Group of Companies near here on Saturday.

Inaugurating the Rs. 46-crore plant, Mr. Ramachandran said that power shortage in the State could not be solved only by the Government. Private parties were also helping the Government in overcoming the power shortage.

People these days were not able to tolerate the absence of power even for a minute. Stating that the requirement of electricity would be there till the existence of mankind, he added that investing in generating power could be a profitable venture.

Mr. Ramachandran invited more private players to come forward to install biomass power plants in Virudhunagar district which had Julia flora in abundance. Besides the district did not have any labour problem.

Mr. Khan said that more such projects that use surplus firewood should come up in the State.

Principal Secretary and Commissioner for Land Reforms, K. Allauddin said that he had planned for industrial development in backward districts such as Virudhunagar by making use of the locally available natural resources when he was the Chairman of Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency. Unlike coal, plants that were used as raw material in bio-mass power plants could be grown.

Make up shortfall

Collector Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan said that the 10-megawatt power plant would compensate the shortfall in electricity generated through windmills. ETA Star Group of Companies Managing Director S.M. Salahuddin was present.
