First planted in the cranium of guitarist and singer/songwriter Dan Goldberger in 1989, The Independent grew into a full-grown band at the end of 2008. Taking a cup of pop, a spoonful of jazz, a drop of folk, and baking it in an oven of ROCK, The Independent concocts songs so infectious you might get a rash, in a style best-termed "pop-fusion". A sip of sonic experimentation and improvisation complements the sound nicely in the live environment, but never at the expense of putting a smile on your face and the songs in your heart. Apply liberally to the ears: The Independent is delicious AND fat-free.

Emerging in Northern Virginia, Escape the Armada laid its foundations in an area already hotly contested with musical ambitions two years ago. Rather then shy away from the competition, however, ETA relished the challenge, the local music scene emboldening them to create bigger and better tracks. Sweet pop influences filter through their distinctive rock undertones, pulling you in and gripping you tightly until the very last notes have finished ringing in your eardrums. The vocals provide stark contrast to Rayshawn's pulse-pounding rhymes, resulting in a thrill-ride from beginning to end that you just can't seem to get out of your head. ETA's efforts came to fruition. They worked hard and played even harder. The recent addition of a new vocalist, Chris, brings lyrical and musical experience into an already diverse and accomplished group. The result? You don't have to strain very hard to hear it. ETA travels around the Northern VA/MD area, playing shows in a wide variety of venues. And they leave their mark wherever they go; whipping each crowd into a frenzy and threatening to blow the roofs skyward. http://www.djneekola.com/ http://www.ljmtx.com/ http://www.myspace.com/escapethearmada http://www.sectr24.com/

"…making a promising comeback with a terrific new country-tinged album… His two hour plus show is a roundhouse kick to rock-and-roll cynicism, a high-spirited affair led by a man who seems intent on giving the audience its money's worth and having a great time doing so." -The Washington Post "John Eddie is a bad-ass… Eddie writes like a cowboy poet, a rock 'n' roller and a country tune-smith all rolled into one. Part Steve Earl, part Guy Clark, part Springsteen, John Eddie is one hell of an artist, and if you didn't already know him, you will soon." -Performing Songwriter http://www.johneddie.com/

On January 23rd, Zimmerman will pay homage to the anniversary year of Samuel Barber's birth, with Barber's Violin Concerto combined with Haydn's Symphony No. 92 and Sibelius' Symphony No. 1. Zimmerman will give the pre-concert lectures for both the January and March concerts, and will write the program notes to explain his ideas and thoughts about Sibelius as a composer. When asked why he chose Sibelius as the first composer for his mini-series, Zimmerman explained, "His music is other-worldly, modern, yet accessible. It's quite challenging to play, and interesting to hear. I am interested in exploring the atmosphere created by playing this music, particularly in counterpoint with the other pieces on the programs in January and March." HAYDN: Symphony No. 92 Oxford BARBER: Violin Concerto Augustin Hadelich, violin SIBELIUS: Symphony No. 1

The Band of the Irish Guards and Royal Regiment of Scotland brings all of the pomp and grandeur of the British Empire to the Center’s stage. This gifted group of musicians was formed by Queen Victoria in 1900 to commemorate the bravery of the Irish Regiments, and quickly gained a reputation for excellence. It was the band’s responsibility to inspire an esprit de corps among the troops, and it traveled extensively throughout both World Wars to give morale-boosting performances for those on active service. Now renowned across the globe, these regiments uplift spirits with rousing marches, sailor ballads, and of course, folk songs from their native Ireland. This incredible ensemble is a delight for the whole family!
