    Working for free -- and consequently worrying about money -- is actually a distraction to the business, and investors don't want that. Taking a salary is a great way to minimize that distraction.

    So instead of viewing this as something "you are allowed" to do, I would say that this is one of the 2 or 3 main uses of the funding. And when you speak with investors, you should be upfront about that. They will understand and be supportive.

    If they aren't supportive, then those aren't investors that you want to work with.
