Range Rover Evoque 5-Door(Land Rover)

Land Rover has unveiled the Evoque 3-door's practical 5-door sibling - meaning the range is complete and ready for its showroom debut next summer.

The Range Rover Evoque 5-Door - AKA the baby Range Rover - will join the Evoque Coupé from launch in summer 2011, and mirror its range of engines and suspension systems.

These include 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines in either 150hp or 190hp guise: Land Rover promises the front-drive 150hp version will emit less than 135g/km CO2. There's also a 240hp 2.0-litre turbo petrol.

Land Rover handling man Murray Dietsch says it will drive almost exactly the same as the Coupé, despite its extra usefulness. "We have focused on ensuring that the car is agile and fun to drive, so that customer have a rewarding experience, even in day-to-day urban driving."

Keeping the kerbweight down to a starting point of 1,630kg will also help achieve a good handling balance. The Evoque 5-Door will be offered with optional MagneRide electronic suspension too, similar to technology used in the Audi R8.

It's the first time we've seen the LRX concept car turned into a 5-Door variant, which Land Rover MD Phil Popham says "extends the appeal of our brand still further."

He adds: "The launch of the Evoque in 2011 will expand and revitalise the global appeal of the Range Rover marque."
