Wife saw bullet hole while Skyping with soldier

DALLAS (AP) — An Army nurse showed no alarm or discomfort before suddenly collapsing during a Skype video chat with his wife, who saw a bullet hole in a closet behind him, his family said Sunday.

Capt. Bruce Kevin Clark's family released a statement describing what his wife saw in the video feed recording her husband's death.

"Clark was suddenly knocked forward," the statement said. "The closet behind him had a bullet hole in it. The other individuals, including a member of the military, who rushed to the home of CPT Clark's wife also saw the hole and agreed it was a bullet hole."

The statement says the Skype link remained open for two hours on April 30 as family and friends in the U.S. and Afghanistan tried to get Clark help.

"After two hours and many frantic phone calls by Mrs. Clark, two military personnel arrived in the room and appeared to check his pulse, but provided no details about his condition to his wife," the statement said.

The Pentagon has said the cause of Clark's death remains under investigation.

In the statement, Susan Orellana-Clark said she was providing details of what she saw "to honor my husband and dispel the inaccurate information and supposition promulgated by other parties."

Clark, 43, grew up in Michigan and previously lived in Spencerport, N.Y., a suburb of Rochester, his wife's hometown. He joined the Army in 2006 and was stationed in Hawaii before he was assigned to the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. He deployed to Afghanistan in March.

Clarence Davis, spokesman for William Beaumont Army Medical Center, declined to comment on Clark's family's statement.

Clark's body was returned Thursday to Dover Air Force Base.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, aged 3 and 9.

Whatever happened to this officer let's make sure we don't get another fiasco llike we had surrounding the death of Pat Tillman. The way the military handled that situation was a disgrace. RIP Capt. Clark. Thank you for your service to our country.

Jermo, I hadn't even thought of that. The Tillman murder never was investigated well, and no one has been convicted of that murder.

Jermo, I have the same concerns that you do ! I hope Capt. Clarks Wife and Family get the truth ASAP !

The military is notoriously slow to respond and their answers frequently are lies. No one wants to admit what really happens in battle. I will pray for this family and hope they get the answers they so rightly deserve. I know from personal experience, the millitary will try to lie their way out of anything.

I think everbody knew the first story did not include a lot of information. That wasn't rocket science. Rarely are all details known immediately.

We should get out of all these god forsaken places. Stay home and mind our own business they bother us bomb the crap out of them. They don't play by the rules why should we.

May this family find peace and answers to so many questions. Thank you Mrs Clark for you and your husbands service to this country. May God give you peace in these trying times.

In a combat zone, someone fires a shot, a man is hit, no one checks it out for 2 hours, man dies. There's as much information in that one sentence as there is in this entire article! Eventually the truth will come out but we haven't heard it so far.
      • Ann B 16 mins ago
I am not sure about that, the truth has a way of getting lost lately. Then others are called crazy. Time will tell.

two hours before they went to help him? Two hours??? His poor family, I am so sorry for them.

They probably thought it was just an hysterical wife.
      • rye_encoke 1 hr 37 mins ago
I don't understand that part either. Where was he that there could be a gunshot close enough to kill him, go through a closet, yet nobody seemed to investigate. Also are these skype rooms not sort of popular and so checked regularly? I definitely want more information as to where he was and why it took 2 hours for someone to find him.

He was in Afghanistan, so it was hard to get through the proper channels to get in contact with personnel over there... sad situation, prayers for the family...

Absolutely horrible. Can you imagine sitting there for two hours staring at a screen with your dead husband on it, still hoping he can be saved? What a strong woman, and I am so sorry for their family.

Oh my gosh...when this first came to light, I wondered what the circumstance, and now we know…that poor women to witness such a horrible death which will forever be seared in her mind. May he rest in peace and this treachery be solved in an expeditious way with justice quickly served so this does not have to keep her agonized above what the human psyche can endure. My heart goes out to her.

So the question is who fired the shot from the closet that killed him? Looks like the Army is way behind in investigating this.
    • ______  •  1 hr 49 mins ago
He lunged forward, so he was shot from behind. Did a bullet come through the wall and through the closet into him? Was this an accident? Was he on base or out in the field? So sad.

So sad. Captain Clark, may you rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

Two days ago the Army said "natural causes".....now a bullet hole? They are still trying to figure out the lies needed to cover their butts, just like with Pat Tillman.

Wow.....Cant even imagine what a horrible and long 2 hours that must have been. Beyond tragic
    • supermom  •  Jackson, Wyoming  •  1 hr 18 mins ago
Why did it take 2 hours for military personnel to show up in his room, since he was on a military base? Did no one else hear a gunshot in what I presume is officers' quarters? I'm sure his poor wife was in shock. Could her estimate of the response time be affected? Could Yahoo ever find out the details before printing an article?

Such a horrible tragedy. Thank you for your service to our country, Captain Clark. RIP
