Mobile app stores have been around for years from Palm, WinMo, and Blackberry.
They weren't run by the individual companies though. Several third party companies sold apps that you can get directly through your device. Along with that were tons of free apps also.

And years later, if RIM finds itself in need of money, it could just file a patent lawsuit against every black market in the world. Financial funding AND crimefighting all in one!
what's happening to RIM? are they lacking creativity in the naming department because this sounds more like a pedofile kind of app store than what their business centric target audience is.

Good question!
Hopefully most applications will be backwards compatible to some of the previous variations of the OS.
Storm and Bold OSs are pretty much the same.
