media6.png
Media6°, which uses analyzes social graph data for use in ad targeting, has closed Series A financing at $9.8M. The round was led by U.S. Venture Partners, with Venrock, Contour Venture Partners, and Coriolis Ventures with angel investors.

The startup says it has on-going relationships with a number of agencies. The premise is that that a consumer who is connected to a firm's existing customer responds to ads from that firm at rates 2X to 30X higher than consumers targeted using traditional demographic techniques.

The startup is led by Joe Doran who was Chief of Staff at MSN and GM of Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions.

For sure, someone needs to figure out how to better monetize the social Web. Media6° is putting out nice marketing that they are succeeding but its still an experiment at this point.
