Using Traffic Exchanges
These days internet has emerged as both, a market and hub for marketing. Unlike the ‘brick and mortar’ world where large manufacturers manage to squeeze out the market bases of smaller companies, the internet provides haven like the free traffic exchange. They are extremely useful to those product and service providers who do not have the advertising budget to compete with large corporations.
Free traffic exchanges can be described as opt-in-clubs, which only other manufacturers of products and services can join. By joining these exchanges, a member is obliged to look at other members’ web pages. To gain membership you have to submit in your website which then goes into rotation with the hundreds and thousands of websites already registered with that particular traffic exchange. (This works best for people with high-speed internet connection.)
These exchanges are generally of two types – auto surf and manual. In the former, the exchange automatically keeps on flipping the pages in the web browser. In a manual exchange you need to click on a graphic or banner control to change pages. Most exchanges operate on the credit system. You gain credit by spending time (for example, 30 seconds) on a particular website. The more the number of sites you spend time on, the more your credit. However your credit gets reduced when another member visits your website. With increased credit your website goes into heavy rotation insuring a more effective and wider reach. You can easily register with these exchanges. Most just request some personal information and your URL.
However, you have to be quite alert in choosing a traffic exchange that would suit your business needs. Select one with many members as this helps in getting more exposure. One factor that is conducive to an effective exchange is demography. You should insure that your business is similar to those available on the exchange. Suffice it to say that a manufacturer of handcrafted china won’t get out of an exchange dominated by marketers of leather goods. The drawback of this is that in an exchange where everyone is offering similar services, you would have to work harder to insure that your site does not get lost.
For beginners it is always a good idea to join a few exchanges of both auto run and manual varieties. You can survey the sites and then decide which works best for you. However, it is the manual ones which are better in the long run because the possibility of actual sales is much higher. One of the tricks of the trade is to use a multi-tab web browser. The browser continues to run several websites in multiple tabs while only one window is open for viewing. You can easily surf many exchanges at the same time in this manner.
Traffic/Hit Exchanges & SafeLists, How to get More from Them
A Traffic /Hit Echanges is an advertising medium where if you agree to look at the ads of others then they will see yours. Not ads actually but your website. From the psychological standpoint all the other sites are already involved with something so why would they sign up for something you are advertising but you can choose the category of the type of sites you will be looking at and the type of people who will be looking at yours. For example if your site was selling appliances then in the category section, when setting up the details of your site, you would choose shopping.
Plus even if they are involved with something already they still might like to look at other possibilities. I’ve noticed that most Interent Marketers are all involved in multiple streams of income. If your website copy is good then people will look past the landing page, which this also pertains to free classified sites and FFA site is if your headline is good enough to grab people attention then the likelihood of positive results are even greater.
Now a lot of people may be saying that these exchanges are as useless as FFA sites but I have seen a lot of marketers who are making full time income’s on the Net using these Exchanges and these people will only make use of advertising that are producing results. In their earlier days a lot of people would just keep IE running displaying these other sites but nowadays you have to view a site for anywhere from 10 seconds to half a minute then click on a specific image in order to advance to the next site. This way the exchanges know that somebody is actually viewing these sites on their network, not using some software that automaticall surfs for them.
Now there are still ways to use these Exchanges and get results without having to shell out any money for the purchase of credits. I use a tabbed Browser that I got from a freeware site and I have a different Exchange on each tab. Sometimes I may have a dozen or more exchanges running at the same time. The way i do this is after one exchange asks me to find a certain icon and I click on it i then tab one over and do this on the next eaxchange. I think one night I actually earned apriximately 400 credits per exchange on 4 different exchanges. This only took a few hours but I had nothing else going on at the time.
Now on a few exchanges that i though were pretty effective I have purchased extra credits which are not expensive at all. maybe about $10 for 1,000= credits which if the exchange had a 5:1 ratio would translate into 200 displays of my site which can be a lot cheaper than PPC.. I also want to add that if your Webpage has a good design that invites viewers want to get more information then those 200 displays of your site could turn into 20 to 40 people wanting to be added to your list of subscribers, or shoppers, or future clients and if they like your site then they may tell others thus creating a viral effect.
The Benefits of Using Safelists
As an Internet marketer, you will always be needing a supply of prospects interested in your product. One of the most effective ways to do that is through the use of safelists. A safelist is a reciprocal mailing list of contacts. Each member of the safelist has to opt-in to the list manually.
What all that up there means is that everybody in the safelist has ASKED to be in the list. By reciprocal, we mean that you get to send your ads to the list members in exchange for accepting mail from them as well. Very simple setup and immensely effective, safelists have been around for years.
The benefits of using safelists are multiple and include:
1. No danger of SPAM reports. Since the member are “opted in”, all the mail is not SPAM. This is important because a single SPAM report can get your ISP to drop you on the spot.
2. You can choose your level in the list. Most safelists have a free membership position which allows you send your ads less frequently. Then there are several paid position levels with individual access assigned to each. This leads us to #3…
3. You can send your messages to the list at a set interval. All safelists allow you send to the list at specific intervals like once a day, once every two days, once a week, etc…depending on your level in the list. For instance, a free member may be allowed to send their ads once every week whereas an executive member can send their ads once every 12 hours.
4. The big upside to a safelist is that the recipients of your emails are usually required to open and read a set number of messages each day to stay active. This gives your ad a greater chance of being read and acted upon.
5. Safelist members already know that they are receiving advertisements and have joined BECAUSE of it. So they are interested in your product and they know you have something to sell. There’s no need for sweet talk and relationship building.
6. Depending on the size of the safelist you are a member of, your ad could be seen by thousands of people each week or even daily in some cases.
7. You can be a member of as many safelists as you want. There is no limit to this so the more lists you are on, the more your ad is seen.
8. Some safelists let you use HTML in your messages, so you can diversify your ad formats and use banners, buttons, text links or just hyperlinks to your site.
9. Most safelists even allow you to save ads on the safelist server for use later on. SO if you have a campaign that you know works, sending that ad can be a one click operation.
10. YOU are the boss. YOU are in control. YOU decide what to send.
11. Use several safelists at a time and compare the results for different types of campaigns. See what works and use it more.
Safelists make advertising easy, affordable and effective. The audience is targeted and they already know they are getting an advertisement. The benefits of using safelists are many and the profits are even greater!
