Account Updater
Visa estimates that 50% of cardholders experience a change in their account information every year. Changes occur for a number of reasons including bank mergers, identify theft, expiration date update and balance transfers. Regardless of the reasons, any change creates significant challenges for merchants that rely upon subscription and recurring billing programs.
Out of date information results in declined authorizations, lost revenue and potentially unhappy customers. Getting customers to update their information is costly and complicated.
Fortunately for subscription and recurring billing merchants using Braintree, merchants can enroll in Account Updater, a program run by Visa and MasterCard, that automatically updates a customers credit card number or expiration date when changed. The program will also provide notification if the account has been closed. The process is entirely transparent to the cardholder.
