Bollywood has never been known for being tech-savvy, but things are changing and how. In the past few months, our high-profile Bollywood stars have embarked on a new trend – that of launching their own official websites. These websites, the stars say, are for keeping in touch with their fans and dismissing baseless rumours. Good for the stars, great for the fans! Here’s looking at the good, bad, and ugly of star websites.
Mallika Sherawat –http://mallikasherawatwow.com The site opens with a tasteful and softly sensuous picture of Sherawat. In fact, so subtle is the picture, that you wonder how the otherwise loud-and-proud-of-it actress would have chosen this one as the opening picture. When you click in to enter the website, it’s aesthetically divided into several headings like Wallpapers, Events, Picture gallery, About Myself and Filmography etcetera. What’s supremely interesting are the unusual features like Trivia (cost of diamonds Mallika wore at the Cannes cost Rs 45 million!), Quotes (loads of interesting ones), On the Sets, and even E cards. The page is interspersed with interesting photographs of the actress. What’s more, this website has tied up with T-series for a desktop TV that plays out the promos of Pyar Ke Side Effects. The site also has endorsements from makemytrip.com and jeevansathi.com. That’s what you call smarts -- making money out of your fan website as well!
