BRIEF HISTORY OF PHATAK REPERTORY

This repertory was published in the year of 1963, some years after its preparation. It is based upon the BOGER SYNOPTIC KEY OF THE MATERIA MEDICA by Dr. CM Boger. Dr. Phatak was well versed with boger synoptic key. He exhausted 6 copies of this book [ boger synoptic key] during his clinical use. He had deep understanding of the materia medica section of the boger synoptic key.

Once DR. P. SHANKRAN [ the father of world known Dr. Rajan Shankran ] brought a case of a child who was mentally retarted and unable to speak. On taking history, it was found that the child did not weep after the birth. Dr Phatak gave a dose of nat mur 1m [ weepy but can not weep, for full case read Dr P Shankran' s writtings about Dr. S.R. Phatak ] with excellent result.

Similarly once a lady was treated by Dr. Shankran for repeated attacks of mumps on rt.side, without significant results. There was severe pain, sensitivity to touch, to pressure, heat of the part. No relief was given with belladona, rather the condition was aggravated upto the extent of suppuration around the gland. So the case was reffered to Dr.S.R.Phatak who asked the patient about position of her sleep.

The patient told that she can sleep better / comfortably on right side.. ie same side of mumps. Although there was great sensitivity of the affected part to touch, pressure. DR.PHATAK ASKED HER, HOW SHE CAN SLEEP ON RIGHT SIDE, INSPITE OF SENSITIVITY OF THE PART,
the pt. told him that she never allowed the suffering part to be touched with bed, with having pillows below her shoulder, allowing the affected part free from touch and > of pain in this position.

Dr. Phatak was one of those prescribers who deny the idea of sensitivity of homoeopathic medicines to the strong orders. The famous actress of that time MEENA KUMARI was patient of dr sr phatak. Once she invited dr phatak to attend the shooting of her movie. On the occassion Dr. Pathak saw that the medicines given by him to meena kumari was kept in her make up box containing many bottles of perfumes too. But on asking the effect of these medicines meena kumari told him that these are very effective and gave instant relief to her headache.

Mrs m. age 30, came to me with pain in the neck particularly on the left side, extending to left shoulder. Last year the same problem was on the right side. The pain came with severity and relieved by pain killers, remained well for some period of time and again severe episode occurred. The pain is associated with stiffness and rigidity of the neck and was aggravated on lying down. She colud not bear the pain. Slight causes like small journey, little work, sitting constantly for few minutes aggravates the pain. She had already taken cimicifuga, ruta, gelsemium etc without relief. GOOD, understand AWAKENING after agg. in this way

1. after sleep, when he just open his eyes. [ this is physically ]

2. after come to know and understand the situation....eg patient says--

WHEN HE COME TO KNOW THAT HIS friend died from alcohol abuse, since He become tense and leave the alcohol.. but still whenever He remember that HE has consumed much alcohol , he becomes tense [ this is mentally .. awakening after aggravation ]

Case of miagrain headache since 2 years. The pain involved the whole head and was felt more at night time. Severe pain with sensation as if hammers was striking on the head. The patient was unable to go outside when there is cold in the air , because cold air aggravated the pain. PSORINUM was given a month ago. No attack till today.

Mrs. k, age 38 y, f. cc vertigo, headache, heartburn, since app. 2 years. Her cc was vertigo, felt more in the morning time, but some whirling type sensation remained all the time, sleep however was good. Every time sensation of heaviness in the head. She was much annoyed about her condition and wants instant relief. All the symptoms became aggravated whenever her abdomen was disturbed by excessive acid. She was sensitive. Can not tolerate heat. Taken into consideration from the above symptoms I gave a dose of sulph 10m .

Next day she called me for much bilious vomiting and excessive headache and send her son for medicine for this [ few placebo globules was given for that ]. In next visit after 15 days she was alright, looking much active and told me that she forgot to tell about her hypertension in last visit, which now is absolutely normal. Pl was prescribed for further 15 days. She is much better till now.

Much care should be taken before selecting a rubric for the condition of the patient. A superficial selection can result not in failure but damage the whole economy of the patient. The physician who hold in his memory only symptoms of the disease or rubrics from any repertory will never succeed as a homoeopath. It is better to give nothing [ placebo] than to give wrong medicine in chronic case. Take the case, give pl for a week [ if there is no emergency ], think about the case and prescribe in the next visit. This is my personal experience… sometimes I have seen in the next visit [ after taking placebo ], the patient become improved…? I do not know but I have seen several times.

Case of hypertension, allergic bronchitis and rheumatism.......

Mrs k. 39 f, came with the problem of headache, pain in whole head, violent, intolerable, no amelioration by any means, bp 160/100 , with some other complaints, like cough, dyspnoea and pain in joints. The headache was so severe that it was impossible to tolerate it . Sensitive to cold, and said the headache increases whenever she came from any grievances, death of somebody, and after weeping. verat alb 200 single dose removed all the sufferings.
