If you’re a G1 owner and are anything like us, you’ve been checking your handset every 20 minutes for the last two days in hopes that it’s finally your turn to bask in the light of the latest update, RC33. It’s not the Cupcake update folks are so anxious to get their hands on - but its got voice search and Latitude, and that more than justifies the patch for us. Fortunately for those of us dying to play with the latest and greatest, some brilliant beings managed to sniff out the official update package. Armed with little more than an SD card, you can be enjoying RC33 in under 10 minutes.

htc-snapdragon

It seems like only yesterday (although technically, it was 48+ hours ago) when Qualcomm’s Snapdragon remained a mythical (mobile technology) beast, yet to be discovered by the modern (handset manufacturing) world.  However, all that changed after Toshiba shocked the cellular industry by unleashing Snapdragon from its proverbial cave with its TG01 announcement.

Yet another Samsung phone leaks: the C6625

Jeez - at this point, saying something like “when it rains, it pours” would almost seem rude. The number of Samsung phones leaked prior to MWC has now leapt out of “countable on two hands” territory, with details of an 11th previously unheard of Samsung phone, the C6625, making their way onto the tubes.

Unlike all of the past leaks, this latest pre-announcement isn’t so much a “leak” as it is a slip-up. Mobile reseller Expansys pushed the product page live a bit early, and some eagle eye stumbled across it. Rockin’ a 2 megapixel camera, 2.6″ 320×240 screen, and a 2 megapixel camera, it’s looking a whole lot like a slightly higher spec’d Samsung Ace. It’s not available yet, but it looks like it’ll go for roughly $365 once it starts shipping.

Full specs after the jump.

Windows Mobile 6.5 coming soon, WinMo 7 later this year
by Matt Burns on February 5, 2009

windowsmobilelogo We have already seen what 6.5 screenshots of the next WinMo refresh, but now we have a roadmap of the mobile OS. It seems that manufacturers will get the 6.5 update in April and those devices should hit consumer’s hands the following September. WinMo 7, however, should be released to manufacturers in November followed by devices in April 2010. Hopefully the upcoming release of 6.5 is special enough to keep our attention cause the mobile platform is dying and we can only imagine what the open source Android will evolve into a year from now; not to mention Palm’s webOS.

We know just about all there is to know about the 8-megapixel Samsung Memoir at this point, but that doesnt keep us from gettin’ that funny feeling we get whenever a carrier makes a handset official. It’s like an angel getting their wings - except instead of an angel it’s a phone and instead of wings it’s a press release. Still, yay!

There’s still no official word of when it’ll drop or pricing, but the leaked spec sheet (which points at a release in late February) has been pretty spot on so far.

With all of the good stuff on the way in the coming months, it’s a bit hard to get excited about what looks to be a pan-for-pan iPhone clone. But if yesterday’s leak of the LG Arena KM900 got you all antsy in the pantsies, we’ve got some more details for you.

A Dutch site called AllAboutPhones has scooped some details on the handset’s specs, which are lent credence by the accompanying previously unseen promo shot up above.

Want Google Latitude for your T-Mobile G1? RC33 has it

As the clock struck midnight this morning, Google announced Latitude, a new tool purposed with sharing your whereabouts with your contacts by way of GPS. Some call it creepy, and others welcome it with open arms - but it seems like just about everyone wanted to check it out. For folks running Windows Mobile, S60, or BlackBerry, that was no problem. They just had to point their phone’s browser over to google.com/latitude and they were good to go. For Android users, however, that page promised only that it was “coming soon”.

“Soon” indeed - in fact, for those lucky enough to have already had the RC33 update grace their handsets, it had already debuted before it was officially announced. If you’re one of the lucky folk, let us know how it is - we’re still waiting for our update.

Ecosumers rejoice! MOTO Renew lands at T-Mobile today
by Jeremy Kessel on February 4, 2009

Have you hugged a tree today? Didn’t think so.  But you can do the environment right by heading over to your local T-Mo brick and mortar and picking up the (previously announced) brand-new MOTO (W233) Renew for just $9.99 w/ two-year agreement.

This handset, “initially exclusive” to T-Mobile, features a plastic phone housing made out of recycled water bottles.  The best part is, once you get sick of owning a cheap sub $10 handset, the entire phone body is recyclable! But wait, the green fun doesn’t stop there:

Through an alliance with Carbonfund.org™, Motorola offsets the carbon dioxide required to manufacture, distribute and operate the phone through investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation, making it the first carbon-neutral mobile phone.

To save time — and energy — the Renew delivers a superior battery life experience with up to nine hours of talk time. In addition, the phone packaging and included in-box materials are printed on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper. Also included in the box is a prepaid shipping envelope for customers to use to recycle their old device.
