Nothing is impossible for the person who doesn't have to do it - Weller's Law
BLACKBERRY MAKER Research in Motion (RIM) announced today that it has made available a number of applications for its handsets.
Anyone looking to customise their Crackberry can visit the firm's online catalogue and feast their eyes on the broad range of themes and apps there.
The firm said there is a significant developer community working on its themes and it urged users to download some. We've had a look at the themes, which start at the reasonable price of free and go up to the rather stiff tariff of $15.99.
One of the most popular apps, BeBuzz, weighs in at just under six dollars and lets users customise the colour of their handset's flashing LED and the message alerts that it plays. Money well spent if you're easily amused, we guess. Another app, Druglord wars, might not be pitched at business users. Well, not conventional businessmen anyway. You can guess what the game entails by its name.
Serious business users, and time and motion students, may enjoy the Call Time Tracker by Momentum that lets you upload the duration of your phone calls to an Excel spreadsheet, HandyLogs money, that lets you keep track of your expenses. There's also a version of the popular Salesforce customer relationship management tools.
The apps have been developed in the most part by third parties, and RIM added that there have been over 100,000 downloads of its Blackberry Theme Studio aimed at developers.
Currently prices are shown only in US dollars. We have asked whether the store is open to users of other currencies and are still awaiting a response. µ
