Asomugha got the money, not the results

By Steve Corkran
Sunday, November 13th, 2011 at 6:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders returned 10 starters from last year’s defense. The one who got away, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, was regarded as one of the league’s best players, certainly one of the top two cornerbacks.
Through nine games, the Raiders are 5-4, matching the best record they achieved through nine games during Asomugha’s eight seasons with the Raiders. The Eagles, with Asomugha, are 3-6 and headed toward a complete meltdown.
Who saw this coming? Not Asomugha, for sure. Yet, reading his words after every mounting Eagles loss reminds me of the seemingly weekly interviews I conducted with Asomugha, most times on the heels of a Raiders loss.
Time and again, he talked about his burning desire to win, how things needed to change, how he remained hopeful of being part of a turnaround.
After eight seasons, he opted to take the money, run and try his hand elsewhere, in much the way cornerback Charles Woodson did when he signed with the Green Bay Packers. Perhaps it’s not a coincidence that Asomugha left right after Woodson won a Super Bowl ring with the Packers last season.
The Raiders were criticized for signing Stanford Routt to a three-year contract that guarantees him $20 million over the first two seasons, and for doing so with an eye toward letting Asomugha walk without making him an offer of any kind.
Who could have guessed that Routt would play as well as Asomugha, and the Raiders would be better off without Asomugha? If you answered “yes,” get in that short line over there.
Several Raiders said point blank that, there isn’t any way to replace a player of Asomugha’s caliber. The key is, getting the 11 players who are here to play just a little bit better. That appears to be what’s happening.
Meanwhile, I can picture Asomugha in the locker room after the Eagles 21-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals today, composing himself, looking bewildered, and saying many of the same things I heard from him the past eight years.
If nothing else, it just goes to show how no one player can play well enough or will his team to victory. The team is bigger than the player, with few exceptions.
It’s a hard lesson for some players to learn. But at least Asomugha can rest comfortably on the mountain of money he received for his troubles.

Asomugha left to play for less money than he made last year. Maybe he was the factor holding the team back.

  5. Macho Man Randy Savage Says:

Routt at Nnamdi’s level…beer gogles mate. Routt does not know they plays half the time, he gives up huge plays that are not even credited to him because he is so far away from the receiver.

Routt can play man to man, gets called for PI as often as any DB in the league and is not capable of learning a playbook.

  6. Macho Man Randy Savage Says:

Paying elite QB money for a guy that can only cover 1 wr is pretty stupid.

  7. raiderkoolaid Says:

I think that that state of the division is so bad that if we go into the last two games with a 7-7 record we will be in controll of our own destiny. All four teams face tough schedules the rest of the way, but I think KC’s looks the worst, and our probably looks the least tough. We seam to play really well as underdogs and play with our heads shoved up somewhere as favorites. The players need to realize that every team they play is an NFL team and if you don’t go in there and fight and scrap, they are going to beat you.

  8. raiderkoolaid Says:

If he could cover two wr’s at once, that would really be something.

  9. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

    Nnamdi doesn’t play here anymore.

This is about the Raiders defense playing at a consistently high level for the rest of the season.

If they do that…Raiders go to the playoffs.

    If they slip up……..

  10. raiderkoolaid Says:

Maybe he could talk two wr’s into standing next to each other, then he could cover both of them.

  11. Raiders for life Says:

This is what I am concerned about.

Our defense has not been CONSISTENT this year. Performance in one week doesn’t seem to translate to the next.

They have to keep playing with the same sense of urgency they did in San Diego

  17. Kirk Says:

We have the worst defense in the AFC West.

Hopefully one day it will improve.

  18. UCLA Raiders Says:

Yeah point well taken but my response to this article is:
UNLESS THAT PLAYER IS RAY LEWIS, ED REED OR PATRICK WILLIS.

These individual do make everyone around them much better on defense. Aso never did that. He’s not a vocal field general like these guys I just mentioned. And I think those guys are better at their position than Aso is at his.

  19. UCLA Raiders Says:

speaking of the uneven performance of our defense I think this defense plays well the week after they’re humiliated. Which tells me Raiders defense plays when they want to play. And when they don’t want to play their best they just cruise to save their bodies for that speacial contract year.

During contract year the effort is 100%.
During non contract years the effort is adjusted down based on the humiliation level from previous week and the level of the opponents.

I disagree, well sort of. We have the capability to dominate games. It stems from the front 7 and when they are on, they are as good as anyone in the league. But they need to play consistent ball. Something we haven’t seen.

  27. Raidervill Says:

I do not believe Routt is playing at quite the level Aso was when he donned the S&B. Aso did not give up TD’s…period. That being said Routt is an above average coverage guy that has played well this year. He just needs to get some ball skills. Grab the ball when its in the air Stanford!

Also I do enjoy that the Eagle are 3-6. Wrong choice for a winner Nnamdi.

WTH are you talking about? Nnamdi never got an offer from Al Davis, so how can he left for more money?

Also, Routt gave up at least 4 TDs ytd with 3 in 3 consecutive games. No I’d rather have Nnamdi than that dude #26 who doesnt turn his head around when the ball is on its way. How many penalties have #26 incurred this year?

I’ll take Nnamdi straight up over Routt any day of the week.

    ———-

No kidding, Steve knows what the score is. Jerry even wrote an article about the whole ordeal.

  43. Gerard Says:

As far as ASO not getting an offer from Al, I think if he had gone to him and told him he wanted to be a Raider they could’ve worked something out.

He gets to look in the paper and see the Raiders are in first and he could’ve been a part of it.

Raiders might not have a great record but it’s better than his team.

  44. Gerard Says:

Even if Philly wins out 10-6 doesn’t make the playoffs..I don’t think.

  45. morilla Says:

There is no doubt in my mind that if Al made him a comparable offer (which was completely doable) Nnamdi would have stayed. Nnamdi is a stand up guy and wanted to remain a Raider.

  46. morilla Says:

Who can we ship off to the Eagles? Haha

  47. morilla Says:

The whole thing started with Routts new contract. The writing was on the wall. Al could have sat him down and said ” look, I know you didn’t fulfill the stipulations of your last contract but I can’t afford to pay you what I have been. How about taking a little less money.”

    He would have stayed.

  48. Albert Bigelow Paine Strikes Back Says:

Great opportunity next week, if they don’t blow it. Chargers, Chiefs, and Broncos should all lose next week. Could have a two game lead.

  49. beach Says:

Philly couldn’t even beat the Colts right now. Vick and Nnamdi are losers, and Andy Reid is getting fired.

This team needs to focus on Minnesota now. They are better than their record, and I hate dome games. We need to go in there and destroy them in the 1st half!

  50. 504 Raider Says:

I’m waiting for one of these writer/analysts to have enough balls to say the truth about what the Colts are doing.

I said since week 3 that they are tanking the season to get Andrew Luck.

The media tries to protect them by writing articles and mentioning “Should the Colts trade Manning to get Luck?” What kind of crock is that? They are six more games away from having Luck and Manning.

Manning plays two more years, grooms Luck, and the Colts are set at QB for the next 15 or so years.

  51. morilla Says:

I still think Luck is a Ryan Leaf (or JR) waiting to happen.

  52. The Realist Dirty Raccoon Says:

I’m excited as hell that this game is on the road under a dome. Great conditions, so our speed can be a factor. And this team really seems to play better on the road the last few years. The record may or may not reflect it, but I think the team, like a lot of other teams, loves the challenge of playing on the road and seems to be more focused. I wish we could travel for the rest of the season.

I was always of the opinion that Nnamdi was over rated. And over paid as well as over hyped. He had a reputation of no one wanting to throw his way. He got that rep because no one bothered to throw his way….so his rep was got him where he is today. Not on his ability.

  60. uglyorc Says:

Nnamdi would be a huge upgrade over the likes of Chris Johnson, Van Dyke, and Chekwa. The defense isnt nearly as good this year as last year.

Nnamdi should have gone to Houston who offered him even more money than the Eagles. It worked out for Houston because they were able to sign a younger shutdown CB for less money.

Joseph is who we should have gone after instead of Cromartie. Instead we could only sign leftover scraps in free agency this year, Boss and Heyer. We overpaid for Boss. If not for a good draft and two big trades, we’d have downgraded the team.

  61. CanuckRaider Says:

Cassel is nothing more than an adequate “system” QB who can only win surrounded by a strong cast and a stout defense to keep the opposing O off the field. And Sanchez is a bum.

    =========================================

Nnamdi is a good player. There is no denying that. The issue with Nnamdi is there are winning players and there are losing players. Regardless of ability and skill. Barry Bonds was a losing player. He didn’t win at the high school level, college level or pro level. As soon as the SF Joints got rid of him, they won. It it Bond’s fault? Who knows? I think Nnamdi is the same way. He is just not a winning player. He had a good game today. Is it his fault they are not winning? Who knows?

  63. JB Says:

I have a problem with people beating up on Nnamdi for moving on to the Eagles when he did. He was nothing but a class Raider while he was with us and I’d take him back with open arms if given the opportunity. Nnamdi needed a change of scenery and his moving on may have been good for Oakland too. It forced us to make Routt more responsible and to bring in new talent to develop for the longer range picture. All that has come to pass and hat’s a good thing for the Raiders. We’ve gone through a ton of injuries in the backfield but we are making our way through it. In the long run, we will be stronger because of the next man up having to step up and become effective sooner than later. I feel sorry to some extent for Nnamdi. I feel some of his past players on the Raiders will be seeing the SB Ring before he does. He paid his dues and as we all know, there’s more to it than just the money. I’m sure Nnamdi would really prefer to be back with his Raider teammates given the choice. Maybe we’ll see him again after his Eagle contract is over. Once a Raider, always a Raider.

  64. CanuckRaider Says:

OK, Carson Palmer is for real and will be our franchise “elite” QB for the next 5 years. I’ve always felt that he was a very classy player and now the verdict is in. As much as I liked Soup, he wa a very classy player too, Palmer is a whole level or two above Jason. we will be seeing pass efforts that many other QB’s wouldn’t even attempt. We are fortunate that all our WR’s are young and moldable. CP will develop this group into a force to be dealt with. We are extremely lucky to have been able to work a deal for CP. We DID NOT overpay. He’ll prove to be worth every cent.

    Re-Focused – Raiders @ Chargers, Week 10
    November 11th, 2011 | Author: Khaled Elsayed

    Pro Football Focus

Thursday Night Football is back on our television, and doesn’t it feel good to have another night of the week dedicated to football?

And doesn’t it feel good to have Mike Mayock on commentary? After only one TNF it’s safe to say that the Mayock and Brad Nessler combination trumps anything else out there, adding insight and relevant analysis to a heated match up that ended up with a score line more competitive than perhaps the performances suggested it should have been.

Why is that? Well for starters you had a San Diego offensive line that (granted they lost two starters) were so routinely beaten, that it was a shock when they didn’t give up pressure on a play. Throw in a defense that couldn’t handle Michael Bush and you have an Oakland team that was simply better than the Chargers. But with a couple of big plays San Diego kept themselves in it, until a couple of sacks at the end of the game gave the Raiders a well-deserved victory. Let’s look at some of the performances that decided this one.

Oakland – Three Performances of Note

    More Moore Please

After an impressive pre-season expectations were understandably high for Denarius Moore (+4.2). After his Week 2 performance against Buffalo they only grew, so it was disappointing what followed, as between Week 3-9 he racked up just 13 receptions for 127 yards. Things may be changing with Carson Palmer (+4.0), with the Raiders new signal caller clearly enjoying throwing the ball towards the rookie receiver (18 times in the past two games). This was the week for Moore to respond with some great work five receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns. As good as the two touchdowns were, his most impressive grab came with 13:20 left in the second quarter. Running a go route, he gets behind Quentin Jammer, only for the ball to be a touch overthrown. Somehow he reaches out to get his hand to the top of the ball, but also maintain control and bring it into his body. That’s not the kind of catch you see made all that often. He’s back in contention for the Race for Rookie of the Year after this display.

    Reacting to a snub

When we posted our Mid Season All Pro team there were a few contentious positions that the staff didn’t agree on. One of them, that nobody seems to have picked up on, was at OLB, where we found it incredibly difficult to leave out Kamerion Wimbley (+10.6). But leave him out we did and boy, isn’t he doing a good job of showing us we were wrong. Wimbley took the QB down seven times, with four sacks and a further three hits. Add another seven pressures and you have a quite remarkable 14 pressure day and on just 37 rushes. That’s a pressure for every 2.5 pass rushes. Let’s put that in perspective. Jared Allen, who leads the league in sacks, averages a pressure for every 8.9 pass rushes. Incredible from Wimbley and it wasn’t just the consistency of his pressure but the speed of it. Two of his sacks (15:00 and 1:01 in the second) came as a result of applying pressure within two seconds of the ball being snapped. Pure dominance.

    Centered rookie

Normally when we do this we have to find a negative performance, but there really wasn’t one worth talking about from the Raiders, and plenty of positive ones to pick from. So I’m turning my attention to Stefan Wisniewki (+2.9) who performed admirably in his first start at center. After watching him against Denver, I was a little intrigued as to how he would get on. His move from LG seemed to be where it went wrong, and he struggled with Brodrick Bunkley lined up against him. Well I walked away from this quietly impressed with the rookie, despite him giving up two pressures. He had a pretty even encounter with Antonio Garay, something which is easier said than done, and had absolutely no problems with LBs at the second level. Still, his most impressive play for me was getting 25 yards down the field with 8:47 to go in the first, where he managed to lock onto Eric Weddle and help Michael Bush pick up some extra yardage on his 55 yard rumble downfield.

San Diego – Three Performances of Note

    The Pace Setter

When Marcus McNeil went out of the game with 7:49 left in the first quarter, nobody could have expected what happened to transpire. Live on the NFL network, a grown man got beaten so badly it was hard to watch at times. That man was Brandyn Dombrowski (-13.1). For those that remember, last year we had to alter our graphs because Dombrowski put in the worst recorded performance in PFF history in Week 3 against Seattle and Chris Clemons. Well the only thing that saved him in this game is that while he played 88 snaps in Seattle, he managed just 65 against the Raiders. Still he now has the dubious honor of having the worst two grades in PFF history after giving up four sacks, one hit and nine pressures on the 52 occasions he attempted to pass block. That is as bad a performance as you’re likely to see, short of putting me at LT and asking me to block Dwight Freeney.

    More playing time

I’ll admit it. The more I see of Antwan Barnes (+3.6) the more I think he needs more playing time. The only problem is when Travis LaBoy (+2.9) plays so well in run defense, as a defensive coach you are loathe to take him off the field. The two OLBs had good days for different reasons, with Barnes proving a nuisance to Palmer with a sack (including a forced fumble), a hit and a hurry to go along with a batted pass. He also did a decent job of getting himself in position to make plays in the run game, ending with two tackles for short gains and one for a loss, as well as one that prevented a first down on third down. The only blot on his run defense being two missed tackles. It’s a conundrum for the Chargers, because three into two doesn’t go when you’re using two every down outside linebackers. It’s going to be interesting to see how they handle this when Shaun Phillips returns.

More than just a dip in the Rivers

Does that headline make sense? Probably not, but then it’s kind of fitting because the way Philip Rivers (+1.1) is playing doesn’t make much either. Sure we gave him a ‘positive’ grade but given that our QB grades aren’t normalized, the +1.1 actually represents a below average performance, but what can you expect when you complete just 31.8% of throws when pressured whilst taking six sacks. Rivers isn’t getting bailed out by his receivers (other than the excellent touchdown grab by Vincent Brown) when he’s flinging into double coverage, and just as bad is his accuracy when not pressured, where he completed just 64% of balls when he wasn’t pressured. I remember our fearless founder Neil Hornsby predicting a breakout year for Rivers, and while it’s true he’s taken his game to another level, it’s just a shame that level is quite a few notches below what we’ve come to expect.

    Game Notes

    - Dombrowski wasn’t the only Chargers lineman to struggle. Tyronne Green (-6.7) gave up a sack, three hits and three hurries, while replacement right guard Scott Mruckowski (-3.4) gave up a sack, hit and four hurries. They all combined so that Rivers was pressured on 53.7% of all drop backs.

    - Arm strength concerns, what arm strength concerns? Carson Palmer (+4.1) completed all four balls thrown over twenty yards in the air.

    - Remarkable as it may sound, Darrius Heyward-Bey was on the field for all bar six of the Raiders offensive snaps, and ran 21 pass routes. He wasn’t targeted once.

    PFF Game Ball

A part of me wants to give it to Denarius Moore, but what Kamerion Wimbley did will go down as one of the most dominant pass rushing performances of the year. Take a bow.

    Raiders Team Report
    USA Today

A week after the Raiders’ thoroughly disappointing loss to the Broncos, things are looking up for Oakland.

The Raiders took over sole possession of first place in the AFC West on Sunday when the Broncos beat the Chiefs. Oakland is 5-4, while Kansas City, Denver and San Diego are all 4-5.

The Raiders got the weekend off after beating the Chargers in the NFL’s first Thursday night game of the season, 24-17.

    It gets better.

Oakland’s next opponent, the Vikings, will be coming off what will surely be a physical, emotional Monday night date against the Packers, while the Raiders have 10 days off in between games.

That should be enough rest to get some key players back to health for the game in Minnesota, most notably running back Darren McFadden and kicker Sebastian Janikowski.

McFadden has been out with a mid-foot sprain since carrying the ball twice Oct. 16 against the Chiefs. Janikowski missed the Kansas City game with a hamstring pull and played in subsequent games against Denver and San Diego but clearly has not been himself.

Janikowski has had to forsake his powerful kickoffs for a three-step approach in which the Raiders attempt to cover high, short kicks. Against the Chargers, the Raiders ran a pass play by Shane Lechler out of formation from the Chargers’ 34-yard line — an area that normally would prompt a field-goal attempt of just over 50 yards.

Other injured players who can use the time to heal include center Samson Satele (knee), free safety Michael Huff (ankle) and cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke (hamstring).

Against San Diego, the Raiders prevailed despite the injured-caused absences of seven players who began the season as starters.

“Without getting too high on this deal, we’re a 5-4 football team, one game over .500, and there’s so many things we can get better at,” coach Hue Jackson said. “I know we will. We’ve got a lot of work to do, and we’ll keep plugging at this thing.

“This team doesn’t blink. We’ve had all kinds of challenges presented to us this year in terms of losing guys for this game, that game, but they find a way to keep going.”

Middle linebacker Rolando McClain, who missed the loss to Denver and the week of practice leading up to the San Diego game, thinks the break will be beneficial.

“We’ve got a few guys banged up,” McClain said. “It’s all part of the game. The guys that are here now who are healthy have to pick up the slack, and we can use this 10-day break to our advantage and try and get some guys healthy.”

    NOTES, QUOTES

TRENDING: Want to know why coach Hue Jackson and defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan emphasize stopping the run? Oakland gave up 75 yards rushing to San Diego and has surrendered 69.6 yards per game on the ground in its five wins. In their four losses, the Raiders have given up 211.0 yards per game.

LINEUP WATCH: Stephon Heyer, a tackle during his time with the Redskins, started at left guard against San Diego and helped the Raiders gain 191 yards rushing while giving good protection to Carson Palmer. Heyer will remain at left guard if Stefen Wisniewski is needed at center against Minnesota because of Samson Satele’s knee injury.

    STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL

    PLAYER NOTES

—CB Lito Sheppard had five tackles and two passes defensed in his first start with the Raiders.

—S Mike Mitchell had his best game with four tackles and a pass defensed against San Diego.

—DE Desmond Bryant had his first sack of the season against San Diego.

—LB Kamerion Wimbley had four sacks against San Diego, overtaking Richard Seymour (five) for the team lead. Wimbley now has six sacks on the year.

—WR Denarius Moore, with 23 receptions for 396 yards, is within four receptions of Darrius Heyward-Bey for the team lead. His four touchdowns lead the team.

  90. marios Says:

“Aaron saw the guy and he was real physical on the play,” McClain said. “We pride ourselves on being real physical. That’s one of the things we’re trying to establish here with the Raiders. It was a great play. Fortunately the guy got hurt – I mean, unfortunately he got hurt. But it happens.”

Fortunately? Dude you are cruel, lol. That’s what we need!

Hey Rockstar, go check the FFL and my timeline of comments.

Before the games started yesterday, I said you would be up 12 points going into tonight.

Lo and behold…..you got a 12 point lead, lol!!!

Prediction skills are a tad rusty, but I still amaze even myself sometimes.

  92. Just Fire Baby Says:

McClain is just a mean dude.

I remember the MNF opener, when a donkey was being tackled, and McClain came over to clean it up with a shoulder to the back of the neck of the guy.

McClain got up to walk away nonchalantly, until he realized the ball carrier was slow to get up, so McClain preceded to take a few steps towards him to talk ish to him for not getting up.

I was like damn, that is not a dude to screw with.

Lots of room for improvement with RoMac, but being a nasty MoFo on the field is not one of them.

  93. RaidingTexas Says:

The problem with comparing Routt to Asomougha is that Aso benefited from a much worse team. The opponents did not need to test him because they could run at will, throw to their tight ends, and throw at the really bad CB on the other side of the field.

The Raiders also had a terrible offense, so other teams only needed a score or two to put the game away. At that point, they were just looking to run down the clock. There was no reason to even see how good Nnamdi really was at defending the pass.

And the ones that did test him often succeeded. Philip Rivers was never afraid of him. Nnamdi got exposed several times against the Chargers.

He’s good, but he’s not a Deion like some people around here tried to make him out to be. Definitely not worth what the Eagles paid him.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Nnamdi was throw at 33 times last year and was flagged 7 times….

Routt was thrown at 100 times and flagged 4….

so not only has Routt been playing at Nnamdis level this season… he played better than Nnamdi last season..

But keep acting like you know what you’re talking about.

  95. Just Fire Baby Says:

Statistically speaking, we have the lowest rated defense in our division.

Worst pass defense of the 4 teams, and only the Chiefs give up more rushing yards per game than us (1.8 ypg).

Rarely does the worst statistically defense win the divsion, so we need to clean that up in the 2nd half.

If the season were to end today though, we would host a home playoff to the Bengals. Wouldn’t that be awesome if Dalton got hurt, and we had former Bengal Palmer against former Raider Gradkowski?

Also, 2nd part of the season seems like a tougher schedule, playing 3 would-be playoff teams out of the last 7 (Bears, Lions, Packers) after playing only 2 (Pats, Texans) the first 9 games.

  96. Teabag Says:

Nnamdi is one of the most overrated Raiders ever…..

  97. Just Fire Baby Says:

Wonder if Nnamdi will make the Pro Bowl this year?

Making the All-Pro team is definately out of the question.

He has made 3 all-Pro teams in his career, and usually if you make 6 or 7 of those, you are considered for the HOF.

And there are a few guys in the HOF who never played in a playoff game.

  98. Just Fire Baby Says:

Not saying Nnamdi should be in the HOF, but if he can bag a half dozen more Pro Bowls and a few more All-Pro teams, he will be like Cortez Kennedy this year, making a case for it based on those numbers alone.

And Cortez almost made it, and never played in a playoff game either.

  99. hwnrdr Says:

    Good Morning Nation!!!

  100. Just Fire Baby Says:

And if the Eagles get a NFL-caliber QB, that would help Nnamdi’s case moving forward.

If you count the last 7 games of last year, with the first 9 games of this year (16 games;1 full year), Vick is 7-9 with more turnovers than TD’s and QB rating barely over 80.

  101. Albert Bigelow Paine Strikes Back Says:

  103. Just Fire Baby Says:

So if the season ended today, we host the Bengals, even though they have a better record than us.

  104. Just Fire Baby Says:

The Bills were the 2nd game of the season, lol.

  158. CJ Legend 34 Says:

Man we had a tough schedule this year fellas.
Would of been nice to get that Denver game oh well.

We really need to get this Viking game. After that we have to deal with Chicago and Greenbay. Wow Chicago is a run happy team that could give us fits along with Minn. I hope our offense can put up enough points to keep us in the game.

Lions may get pass happy on us as well and I don’t like our dbs matched up aginst their bigger WRs. WHat I do like about the Lions game is it is a home game and their running game sucks! We have to get to Stafford and rattle his cage to win that game.

  159. hwnrdr Says:

I hope Green Bay is 12-0 when we meet them in December…I don’t know why, but it seems a little more intriguing…

  160. CJ Legend 34 Says:

Yep!!! Big things start with a good line. A young line at that, which can only get better. They work hard, need to play a little smarter at times. But I aint knocking them. With our speed with their force could be the making of something special.

2-6. I have the Green Bay Defense so the FF game is a toss-up. A.P. is one bad M*F back.

  165. CJ Legend 34 Says:

The only way we can comfortably let Mike Bush go next year is to see more of what Tiwan can do. Right now you have no idea and with DMACs injuries you need a good back up RB. Their games compliment each other well.

The way backs get beat up in this league and they are a dime a dozen, if I am Bush and my team pushes into the playoffs. With this o-line I consider staying a Raider.

Mark Sanchez took a timeout late in the first half of the New York Jets’ 37-16 loss to the New England Patriots that earned special distinction from Rex Ryan as “the stupidest thing in football history.”

Rex’s beef was that Sanchez should have let the play clock run all the way down before calling a timeout. The Jets weren’t pressed for time; either they were getting a touchdown on the next play or kicking a field goal after. They got the touchdown and, by calling the timeout, gave Tom Brady(notes) and the Patriots extra time with which to respond with a touchdown of their own.
