The French Canadians suggest that up to five Laurent Cadotte's may have been born in the North West prior to first census of Red River in 1831.

Indian b-1760; he joined the NWC from L’Assomption on December 27,
1810 and worked at Cumberland House and Ile a La Crosse, English River
(1811-1819) before coming to the Columbia. NWC/HBC (1810-1839), bowsman from York Factory to
Columbia District (1822-1826) he ended his career east of the Rockies. In
1824-1825 Cadotte transported Governor Simpson when he visited the Columbia but
we know nothing of his character. After leaving the Columbia, he spent the rest
of his career east of the Rockies before retiring in 1839 at the age of
approximately fifty-three. Married Betsy William b-1820 Red River, one
child recorded

Married some suggest married a Madeleine Kwesewen (Ikwesens)
or (Little Girl) daughter Wabadjidjak (Chief White Crane). This conflicts
with 1830 census and marriage and is an obvious error. see 1761 (IV)
Michel Cadotte (1764-1836) The Michel married to Madeleine died at Lapointe while the
other Michel died Sault Ste Marie, both born 1764 and died 1836 and married sisters
according to Heather.

La Pointe, Wisconsin son (III) Michel Cadot a Metis 1729-1784. It
would appear these two Michel's are being confused.

Three of the girls are called Archangel, Sophia and Polly. Sophia and Polly received land grants No. 98 and 99, Sophia later married Thomas Edwards. Polly married Amos Stiles (the man who never smiled) and is reported to be on the Independence when her boilers exploded and came safely over the rapids on a bale of hay.
