If you are a Club Med fan, they have a sale now that is not to be missed. You have to book by Nov. 2, but you can travel as late as next April. And what they are offering is 7 (seven) nights for the price of 3 (three).
Of course the 3 nights are overpriced but you know there is no free lunch anymore. The package starts at $800 per person, which suggests they have rooms for more than $250 per night. I personally would not want to stay at such a high brow resort but when you average 7 nights over $800, it comes to a little over $100 per night - not a bad deal at all for one of their all inclusive resorts. Their choices are also varied - Mexico, Costa Rica, the Caribbean or Florida.
In the Caribbean, one of the offerings is the Caravelle in Guadelupe. I was in Guadelupe many years ago and though it was challenging getting around because it is a French island and my French is limited to "Excuse my French", I had a blast. Rode buses not knowing where I was going or how I was going to get back, ordering food from a French menu, conversing with locals in pigeon English, etc. I was NOT at a resort however but in the capital city so I expect at Club Med the menus would be in English also and getting into and back from town a breeze.
And yes, you have to get there (by air unless you are a good swimmer) and there will be extra charges (taxes, gratuities, drinks, etc) so it isn't as if you are off the hook for $800 only. What is great however is the idea of going to Mexico in the heart of winter in the Northwest and East, say a week long trip in January or February?
