HP recs: other slash pairings

A fair warning: I’ve been out of HP fandom for quite a while by now. As I read HP fiction nearly not at all nowadays, please don’t expect these listings of mine to be kept up to date. If you report a broken link or suggest a new addition, I might fix/add it… in half a year. So please don’t use these lists as a proper gateway but rather as a general guidance for what to look in other places if you find a dead end here. For new stuff, check comments.

Other Slash Pairings

Fics are sorted in alphabetical order by title (articles excluded).

Long fics (over 20K words)

The Fields of St. Herve, by Arsenic (or here) #
Draco/Remus (other het and femmeslash pairings mentioned), NC-17. Summary: “Draco’s a bit down on his luck.”

If you never read anything by Arsenic, go for it. She’s a very good writer, strong, with a sure style and storytelling manner and well-told, interesting stories. This fic would be a good place to start. If you are familiar with her writing, you’ll see that this fic is similar to the rest of hers. It’s Hurt/Comfort, with a shorter part devoted to hurt and longer and more detailed one to gradual healing/comfort. Draco’s been bitten. He’s miserable, always underfed (and learned to appreciate free meals and count sickles); he’s lost his family and — naturally — friends and can’t keep a job. All in all, this is Draco in a situation I love seeing in fanfics: make my Draco pathetic and force him cope with difficult everyday life, and I’m yours. While struggling to make both ends meet, he finds friends in unexpected people and love in an unexpected place.

I’ve read nearly everything that Arsenic has written in HP and some fics in other fandoms, so not every one of them works for me now because I’m more ready to apply the pattern to some pairings and characters than to the others. What I mean under the pattern is: supporting characters can be seen as a bit too supporting/understanding; in general everybody understands the protagonist a bit too well, in particular in those dialogue lines that don’t imply immediate “correct decoding” — comparing to how often people misunderstand perfectly straightforward words in RL. Help finds those who need it. Most characters form various working relationships by the end of the story, not only the main ones. Nobody’s left hurting or lonely. The set of repeating features can annoy me, I can not mind them, or like them. It depends on the particular story. For instance, I didn’t finish Arsenic’s last Snape/Hermione but this Draco/Remus fic worked for me. But that’s nitpicking. Thing is, even if it’s a H/C cliché, Arsenic writes it really wonderfully. She does tell interesting, well thought-out stories and tells them well. Her take on magical stuff is always refreshing, her Wizarding world is always a world: with interesting jobs, places, and magic that are so detailed that you can’t help living in there. All in all, a satisfying long(ish) reading, as proper H/C should be. I particularly liked Harry here, although he’s changed a lot after the war. And there’s an utterly charming dog! :) I enjoyed the story.

Lust Over Pendle and Dissipation and Despair, by AJ Hall (whole story arc can be found here) ##
Draco/Neville, R. Summary: A comedy of manners, in the Golden Age detective thriller genre, set in the year immediately after Voldemort’s fall. Lust Over Pendle begins when a Daily Prophet paparazzo manages to take a sneak photograph on the beach at an exclusive Indian Ocean hideaway resort, and the families of both Neville Longbottom and Draco Malfoy find themselves Very Startled Indeed.

A Remedy to Boredom, by Titti #
Charlie/Draco, NC-17. Summary: A potion forces Charlie and Draco to be together, to the frustration of family and friends.

I apologise in advance for the number of parentheses. The plot of this fic evolves around a botched love/lust/bond potion. Draco — who is now, years after the war, friends (non-enemies) with Weasleys (Ron, to be precise) — and Charlie have meaningless drunken sex in the toilet at one of the latest Weasley weddings. They should have known the dangers of attending a wedding where the twins are among relatives! So now Charlie, who’s single and unattached, and Draco, who’s a single father with two children (his mother lives with them) have to be constantly touching or the bond causes them much discomfort. Their families aren’t happy. They, on the other hand, find that to be a decent working arrangement.

The fic is light and pleasant, but I suspect that there are things one might find exasperating. Firstly, it’s rather conflictless. I mean, yes, there are enough conflicts and issues to keep the plot moving at a nice pace, but the very narrative intonation sort of smooths over them, and it’s clear it’s all moving to a happy ending. Secondly, there are all those big families of happily intermarried everybodies, with lots of children, who all get along (even when quarrelling), party together, go to the same places etc. Thirdly, it’s pro-Slytherin, pro-Malfoy, and not everybody will believe in these versions of Draco, Narcissa, and especially Lucius (as he appears in Draco’s tale). But me? Spent a really good hour reading it. So, as a conclusion: I enjoyed the story; it was a happy and relaxing reading, with lots of details and scenes to remember, vivid and likeable.

Reparations, by Helenish []
Part 1. matched set, Part 2. homecoming, Part 3. like riding a bike, Part 4. make it easier, Part 5. if that’s what you’re asking, Part 6. it has to hurt, Part 7. an awful lot of trouble, for someone like you, Part 8: I’ll bring you back.
R/NC-17; Draco/Neville; discontinued WIP.

Sirius Black and the Land-In-Between, by Titti (link to the main page) #
Sirius/Draco, NC-17. Summary: “The veil is only a temporary stop for Sirius Black, but regaining his humanity won’t be easy.”

A wonderful excuse to update Sirius/Draco list and good news for the 10 of you out there who love the pairing. Titti posted her NaNoWriMo fic at her site. It’s a novel! I’m always repeating the same things when recommending Titti’s fics, but that’s because the things that make me enjoy them are always the same. I once called them ‘operetta style’. They aren’t heart-breaking, they are light, not Action/Adventure but still plotty enough, and quick-paced.

Now I have a choice: to spoil or not. Well, I’m choosing ‘not’ but I’ll tell you that in post OotP fiction I’ve seen denial!Sirius (i.e. absolutely alive, i.e. let’s pretend it didn’t happen), no Sirius, resurrected/brought back from the veil Sirius, ghost!Sirius, even the corpse of Sirius, but I’ve never seen anything like Sirius in this fic of Titti’s. Aren’t you intrigued? Besides, some scenes are very moving, and some scarce details can tell us more than long descriptions. Very pleasant fic.

new Stay, by gypsyflame #
Sirius/Draco, NC-17, ~23K words, AU. Summary: War is coming, and Narcissa is scared for Draco. So she turns to the only person she can think of – Sirius Black. Warnings: Dubious consent; may be considered underage (Draco is 16).

My favourite rare pairing has got a new longish fic! The very fact is wonderful but the fic is wonderful in its own right too. It’s hot and in character and plotty; it’s a forced marriage fic with all the angst and tension the plot asks for. Draco is wonderfully helpless but still a scheming bastard, not without humanity or feelings though. Sirius who is forced into the position of a responsible adult is wonderfully torn between responsibility and his less admirable character traits. Harry — we can’t bypass Harry in a fic set post OotP, right? — is also very Harry. But what I loved best about this story is that among the currently more trendy post-Hogwarts fics, this one reads as if it were written a few years back, only with the full canon knowledge making it seamlessly written into canon, not jossed.

Short(ish) fics

Aconite and Aconite 2, by tosca #
Remus/Draco, PG-13. Summary 1: n the moonlight, there are a million shades of grey. Summary 2: In the midst of war, people might change their minds. Maybe.

Adrenaline Junkies, by Snegurochka Lee []
Sirius/Charlie, very NC-17, short. Warnings: Bestiality. Summary: “It’s kinky, sure,” Sirius murmured, closing in behind Charlie and whispering across the back of his neck, “but if you’re interested in magical creatures, and I think maybe you are, you’ve got one right here. And he owes you a favour.”

Snegurochka writes the best kinky PWPs out there, seriously. The story is set during OotP. Sirius persuades Charlie to take him for a walk, as Padfoot. In the park where they go, Charlie meets a nice chap walking his dog and goes for a nice meaningless grop behind the bushes. But Padfoot objects. Seriously hot kinky smut ensues. Wonderful!

At the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners, by Geoviki (or here) #
Remus/Draco, NC-17. Summary: Some habits are hard to break.

I must confess: I’m not impartial, I’d seen this fic before it was posted, so I knew who the author was when typing a rec for an anon fic. But I hope there’s no need to say that I won’t rec a fic I don’t like even if the author were the friendliest friend of mine.

This is Remus/Draco, a rather tricky pairing. The author takes a standard premise for the pairing (Lupin has to look after Draco who, after [this and that] is placed in the Order headquarters) but fills it with very fresh, original things. I’m absolutely not going to spoil it, but believe me, what Draco does and why he does it is really charming, and I liked Lupin in this fic very much!

Before the World Was Made and sequel All the Small Things, by Maeglin Yedi #
Sirius/Tom Riddle, NC-17; AU. Also can be read at Skyehawke. Warning: bestiality. Summary: “Sirius comes up with a plan to get redemption for a horrible mistake he’s made and he hopes to save the wizarding world in the process. But who will save Sirius?” and “Of Evil Overlords, thick-headed Gryffindors and little wizards who are too curious for their own good.”

This fic is fascinating in many respects. For once, how many believable and well-written fics with this pairing have you read? Then, this is a very strange AU. It begins like a non-AU fic, the events it starts with might have happen in canon; we can assume that they simply were omitted or haven’t been told us yet. But the further the more it becomes AU-er and AU-er until it’s a ‘proper’ Alternate Universe. Then, trust Maeglin Yedi to make Voldemort attractive but at the same time do it without undue glamour. He *is* the Dark Lord. He does lots of awful things. But Maeglin shows us his human side, and it’s not the sort of “Hitler also loved his lapdog” apologia, maybe because, since it’s an AU fic, the author has an opportunity to smooth out the sharpest angles and choose slightly different roads for her main character. Maybe because the author doesn’t answer all possible questions in her fic. Maybe because if not seen from a child/Gryffindor POV. But he *is* a human. Anyway, it’s believable, fascinating and not angsty (just moody in times), and the second fic in the duo is really very amusing and charming. Please, give it a try, it’s a good reading!

Berlin, by Delphi ##
PSOH/HP x-over, Grandpa D/Albus, PG. psoh_fqf entry. Challenge: #56 - HP crossover. A younger Dumbledore acquired Fawkes from a Chinese petshop owner in Berlin around WWII. You can interpret Dumbledore’s death as a breach or fulfillment of contract terms.

The fic is awesome. If you are interested in Pet Shop of Horrors to any small degree or if you at least know what it’s about, it’s not to be missed. This is where clever turns into ingenious; this is where the necessary ingredients such as good writing and interesting idea fuse into a magic of a good story.

A much younger (but not young) Albus Dumbledore is looking for a phoenix. His search leads him to a Chinese pet shop. No, this is hopeless. I’m still rather speechless after reading it. It’s moving and charming, and you’ll see a young Dee, and the phoenix nearly made me cry. Wow. Just wow.

Best Friends Forever, by frogslayr # [dead link]
Slight Goyle/Crabbe and Goyle/Harry, mostly Goyle/Draco; NC-17. Summary: Boys grow up. To be girls. And boys.

This fic centres around Goyle, his curiosity, his view of life. The style is very economical, as always in frogslayr’s fics, and the result is moving, also as always with her. I think I might fall in love with Goyle after this.

new Better Solution, by florahart #
Neville/Draco, NC-17, one-shot. Summary: Draco didn’t get off unscarred, at the end of the war, and if he had to get used to his new life, that didn’t mean he wouldn’t take something better if it came along. A/N: parseltonguepen asked for, among many things, hurt/comfort, first-time, non-sexual use of books, potions, possible hopeful endings, bondage, and oral, which are more or less present. I’m not so sure I was as plotty as hoped, and it may wind up fluffier than desired. However, I did partially use one of the requested scenarios: someone is blind; the other person is confined to a wheelchair due to tremors rippling through their body.

This is an oldish fic I found just now because it was suggested for my disability themed list. One should trust Flora to handle the topic in the best way and write a rare(r) pairing to make you wonder who you even bother to read more common ones :) In other words, a fabulously Draco-y Draco who fits really well with a fabulous very Neville-y Neville. The summary and author’s notes will tell you enough about the fic, so go read the fic already!

Charmed Life, by Florahart #
Percy/Draco; NC-17. A/N: This was written for hp_cliche; from the prompt chart, I chose Draco/Other Weasley and forced bond. This is what happened.

A Dressing-Down, by Venivincere (or here, locked) #
Arthur/Draco, NC-17. Warnings: Petticoating, spanking, wanking. Draco is 16. Summary: For the Pornish Pixies May Fantasy Fest, for Aspen. Draco is taught to behave by an enthusiastic Arthur. Humor, PWP.

Oh, this fic is so wrong! And so funny (just look what Muggle book Arthur uses to discipline disobedient boys!). A gem, really. It features an incredibly Arthur-y Arthur and snotty Draco-y Draco. It’s wonderfully ambiguous. I’m laughing and shaking my head remembering it. Just go read already, you won’t regret it.

An Elegant Man, by Icarus #
Lucius/Percy, NC-17. Summary: “An unlikely friendship built on politics, gossip, and long evenings by the fire takes a turn that anyone but Percy Weasley could have seen coming. Lucius Malfoy, Slytherin Sex God? Well. Lucius thinks so. But Percy learns he’s all too human.”

Icarus is one of those writers who can pull off anything. She writes a pairing I don’t like and I like it in her fic. You see, I don’t care about Percy. But I am absolutely enamoured with this story. Cheshyre recced it to me for the selection of the fics with awkward/realistic sex, and indeed, it’s both awkward and realistic, but also sweet, moving - without sap. And intelligent. Absolutely wonderful fic!

Flicker, by Emma Grant (or here) #
Remus/Draco, NC-17. Summary: After the events of HBP, Draco is in hiding, presumed dead by the Wizarding World. When Remus offers to hide him for a few days, the connection they forge takes them both by surprise.

Snape drops Draco off at Lupin’s. Lupin sets the rules. Draco, of course, doesn’t like them. I like their battle of wills — it’s all about small things, but it looks real and even entertaining, in a sense. The whole story takes less than a week. They both, Remus and especially Draco, seem to be very much in character in this fic, or at least I can imagine them just like that. It’s a lovely story, realistic and bittersweet.

Following Orders, by westwardlee #
Kinsgley/Bill, NC-17. Summary: Bill’s mission is to recruit Kingsley Shacklebolt for the Order of the Phoenix. It proves to be a most difficult task– with unexpected results.

Fun and light. I like Kingsley; I always want more fics about him, so I was very glad to read this one. I kept grinning while reading it. Bonding over the earring :) And the ending is wonderful!

For Blood and Wine are Red, by penknife (or on IJ) #
Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwald, NC-17, ~5600 words. Summary: It’s not that Albus doesn’t know better.

It was wonderful! The events of the past came alive through Albus’s wishes and frustration and youth. Gellert isn’t to be trusted, and Albus can see it quite well but life is so frustrating for him, locked in Godric’s Hollow after their mother’s death, a caregiver to his mentally (and magically) unstable sister and rather hostile younger brother. He’s brilliant; he wants an employment but he can’t leave home. He wants to travel and explore himself, far from home, where nobody would know who he is. But he’s stuck. So he grabs the first bright, tempting thing that comes his way, even though he knows better.

It’s just a short story that shows us the relative quiet between two awful events that shake Dumbledore family. But it’s such a convincing look into how the relationship between Albus and Gellert could happen and even how it could come to the disaster we know it to come to. Wonderfully written. And I liked it a lot. I can’t help admitting though that I would love a sequel that traces this relationship we can see building to its end. I’m greedy and I want to see more of this wonderful universe. Strawberries for Ariana, a baby goat for Aberforth, and wonderful Albus. More please?

Force of Habit, by Eodrakken (pauraque) #
Ron/Pettigrew; NC-17. Summary: “When everything else was sleight of hand, Ron could always count on the rat between the sheets.”

Plausible, psychologically believable, well-written … unromantic but evocative, sad but not depressive, ugly but nice - this all can be said about this story. It made a really strong impression on me. It even somehow overshadowed for me the other fics by Pauraque that I like.

Found Object, by cjmarlowe (or here) #
Remus/Draco, NC-17. Warnings: One sexual participant is 17 years of age. Summary: Some things you find in the forest are worth keeping.

Remus finds a bound and gravely injured Draco Malfoy in the forest. It turns out that he was mauled by Fenrir as a punishment for Draco’s not killing Dumbledore. They suspect that Draco may be turned. I loved the way CJ wrote Remus and Draco’s gradual bonding and Draco’s struggle to cope with his possible new status. I loved the ending, too. Good story, all in all.

The House Guest, by wildestranger #
Remus/Draco, Draco/Random Rentboy, implied Draco/Blaise and Remus/Sirius; NC-17. Request: Plotty romance sounds ideal. I’d love a Remus/Draco post-HBP forced bonding that doesn’t hinge on Remus being a werewolf. For the other things on your list of writing preferences, I am all about the fuckbuddies but secretly more, sarcasm, hurt/comfort, angst, rimming, frottage, and anal sex. If you can fit virginity or blackmail (but not Remus or Draco blackmailing the other, at least not too seriously) in there, as well, then go for it.

The story is beautiful (and not pretentious). I didn’t believe in the “good guys” at the beginning, but it stopped mattering very soon because the writing really leads you. I loved how the author wrote both Draco (POV character; it’s normal limited 3d person, present tense) and Remus. He’s seen through Draco’s eyes, and the further the more it is that Draco sees and feels, until Remus becomes no less flesh and blood than Draco. As I said in my feedback, the story has a wonderful rhythm and wonderful tempo, and is a pleasure to read on the whole — skillful and moving.

I Shot Down the Moon For You, by Zahra (hackthis) []
Draco/Neville, PG. Quote: “The problem with being dead is that it tends to confuse Draco’s circadian rhythms horribly. Not that ghosts need to sleep or eat or have a bath, but that doesn’t mean that Draco doesn’t want to do all these things with a passion bordering on fanaticism.”

Jacob, by cave_canem #
Sirius/Draco, NC-17. Warnings: madness, mental illness, possible suicide attempt. Summary: Draco was injured in the war, his Sight blown wide open, so that now when he looks at a person or a thing, he sees everything they are, and everything they have been. Only animals are excepted. As a result, Draco’s gone into exile on a small island off the coast with a dog he’s named Jacob Grimm for his only companion. Author’s notes: For the September Fantasy Fest. painless_j’s request: Sirius/Draco; relationship (not just pwp); either push it into OotP or resurrection fic; top!Draco; Sirius appearing as Draco’s dog but no bestiality.

It’s wonderful. This is a Sirius/Draco fic as I want it. It’s original, it’s vivid but also involves all senses - I’m the one to value it, you know. It’s sad and angsty but not hopeless, and it’s absolutely beautiful. The fact that Sirius’ appearance isn’t explained is perfectly fine by me, I believe it and I think some things are ok to be left to readers’ imagination. Ah, I’m happy and full of gratitude.

Just the Words, by Delphi (or here) []
Moody/Shacklebolt; NC-17. Summary: Kingsley takes Alastor home after the events of Goblet of Fire.

Letters in the Dead of Night, by qotc #
Dumbledore/Grindelwald, NC-17, short. Summary: It was lucky that Bathilda had found that particular letter. The correspondence that followed had been far less innocent.

This is a sad piece, even if not tragic per se. The author offers us a look into Gellert Grindelwald’s soul/psyche, and a rather disillusioned, unromantic look it is. Reading this story, I could imagine how this boy later became a dark lord. It’s as if some vital part is missing in him. No, he’s not a monster. He just doesn’t understand. I think he even loves Albus, in his own way. Or would, if he could comprehend what exactly this feeling is. But he’s all about ideas. I felt sorry for him. And for young Albus. It was damn unlucky of him to fall for this boy. But this, also, explains why he grew into the man we know from the books. Interesting story!

The Literal Game, by Sam Vimes (copperbadge) []
Remus/James; R. Summary: “Remus loses a bet and buys James dinner; Remus loses a drinking game and tells James a story; Remus loses the fight, and wins James Potter.”

No news that Sam writes well. This wasn’t, however, what made me like this fic. It was the wonderful instalment of the comedy element in it. I haven’t laughed so hard and so loud for a long time. Here, when James and Remus try to open the door, I was literally crying of laughter. Nothing special, really, just a tiny sitcomish dialogue. But try and make something like this and you’ll see that it’s a small diamond.

The little death, by Eodrakken (pauraque) []
Viktor/Cedric, some het canon pairings; NC-17. Warnings/kinks: Dominance/submission, orgasm control, bisexuality.

I have mixed impressions. I did like it a lot, but it’s not my ideal Cedric fic ‘cos it happens during GoF. I liked the way the author mixed the events of their fic with canon, and I loved Viktor. It’s a bit sad, but not devastating. And the sex is hot. I do have a thing for D/s :)

new Lost and Held, by GatewayGirl []
Sirius/Peter, NC-17, ~5K words. Warnings: Castration, sex, cross-dressing, manipulation. Themes/kinks chosen: Eunuchs/Castrati, Costumes. Summary: An accident gives Sirius and Peter a shared secret.

I can’t say I liked the story: this Sirius is a bastard and he rather creeped me out — not enough to not read though. But I did find it very interesting. I wish people wrote obscure kinks more, and I also wish they made them as interesting or downright appealing as GatewayGirl does. She sold me on crossdressing and genderbending and bestiality and whatnot as terribly hot in her various fics. She has this talent to show you the mechanics of a kink: why it works, how it works, so that you fan yourself and slap your forehead at the same time, thinking “Eureka! This is what people see in it!” In any case, if Castrati, Sirius or Peter aren’t your active squicks, give it a try :)

The Measure of a Man, part 2, by The Treacle Tart #
Remus/Bill, NC-17. Summary: “When a familiar voice contacts him looking for help, Remus is drawn back into a world he had forsaken long ago to stop a killer.”

A detective fic! Somebody is killing werewolves. The killing has some logic but it’s strange, too: they seem to be cured before being killed. Remus who has lived among Muggles working as a private investigator is called by Bill Weasley to solve the mystery. Good reading, action-packed, intriguing, with fair dose of romance.

Midst of Life: part 1, part 2, by Anise []
Remus/Draco, NC-17. A/N: This story was written for scribbulus_ink’s ‘I Don’t Want to Die a Virgin’ Challenge. Remus offers Draco shelter during the war. Harry isn’t pleased.

Noblesse Oblige, by Aspen (cursescar) # (locked)
Draco/Viktor, NC-17. Notes: This takes place during GoF, in some indeterminate time between the first Triwizard task and the Yule Ball.

Porcelain, by ElectricAndroid (or here, locked) #
NC-17; Bill/Draco, Lucius/Draco implied. Summary: Bill finds Draco on a snowbank. Warnings: Implied Incest, Character Death, Gratuitous use of a blade.

It’s a twisted, short story, an aesthetee’s glance at Draco. Chilling and beautiful. One of my favourite fics by ElectricAndroid.

A Root So Deep, by wook77 #
Seamus/Dean, NC-17. Summary: There is an Irish proverb that states, “when the root is deep, there is no need to fear the wind”. Seamus is about to learn how deep the root of his friendship with Dean truly is.

It’s such a wonderful, moving story, not to mention really hot. I don’t usually read this pairing ‘cos for me they are barely more than OCs, but the author fleshed them out so well that I couldn’t help being charmed. I’m not interested in Dean or Seamus but she made me interested, effortlessly: by the middle of the fic, the problems and joys of one Irishman have become a most important thing for me. There are elements that seemed a bit too formal to me, like those lines that end Seamus’s stay in the places where he travels, but once again, the essential things here matter so much more. Seamus is in love with Dean. Has been for a long time. Dean goes to study Art. Seamus starts bar tending. Dean is straight. Dean is dating. Seamus goes to see the world. But he keeps coming back ‘cos home is where Dean is. There’s more to the story of course, as there’s more to their relationship. It’s not a tale of unrequited love. What it is, is a moving, sexy story that made me see these characters and care about them. Wonderful!

second star to the right, and straight on till morning, by abaddon (nothingbutfic) #
Draco/Neville, NC-17. The challenge was: memorycharm requested “Neville/Draco. Draco’s a pushy, snotty, talkative bottom and Neville’s confused. Eventually-taking-charge!Neville melts my socks.” Summary: You were always on my mind. (History is written by the victors.)

Shadowmancers, by Mosh #
James/Sirius, + Regulus, NC-17, ~10K words. Summary: What if the revenge you exact on someone else appeals to you more than you’d care to admit? Warnings: Mild bondage, ambiguous consent (nothing too heavy), although Regulus is involved in one of the smut scenes, I wouldn’t say there was incest unless you really want to see it that way. :)

This is my favourite kind of Marauder Era fic: edgy and neither fluffy nor too dark. Sirius and James are what I like to see them: young, daring, careless, playing dangerous pranks they can’t predict the consequences of (and don’t care to think of at all), lovable and utterly them. Sirius is pissed with his younger brother and wants to teach him a lesson. He found a book in his father’s extensive library of dark and ugly things, a book on Shadowmancy. So he eggs on James to use it in a prank against Regulus. Of course they couldn’t think about what it might lead to. The story is written so well that I didn’t mind the wandering POV for once. The characterisation of both Sirius and James is wonderful, and their relationship, even more so. Such damn teenage Gryffindores! Go read!

Shelter the Foe, by Switchknife #
Sequel: Devil You Know.
Remus/Draco, NC-17. Notes: Written for Isis, who asked for Remus/Draco. The quote that spawned the bunny: ‘Trust not yourself; but your defects to know, / Make use of ev’ry friend–and ev’ry foe.’ - Alexander Pope, ‘Essay of Criticism’ [l.214]

Silent Friend, by Titti #
Sirius/Draco, NC-17. Summary: A lonely Draco finds companionship when Snuffles befriends him.

Sins of Omission, by jeddy #
Remus/Charlie (Remus/Tonks mentioned), NC-17, 14300 words. Summary: Sometimes to move forward you have to go back.

Against the background of many a Snape/Lupin story I tried reading this season where their being alive after DH is barely/hastily explained only to let the author get to the interesting stuff, namely romance (and which I found to be my fictional squick), here the author made me believe that Remus could be living. The two time-lines are used very well to this purpose. There’s also a fabulous Hagrid, wonderful Weasleys, and the insecure, always running Remus whom I totally bought. I liked the rest, too: the dragons themselves, the small details of the dragon reserve, Fang outside Hagrid’s cottage, how Molly made Ron’s life one big cleaning endeavour, hee. Lovely story.

Slice of Life, by rillalicious #
Neville/Charlie, NC-17. Summary: It’s ridiculous, really, for a twenty year-old man to be traipsing all over England in search of someone who can heal an injured toad, but it means something to Neville.

Look, I’ve read a fic with the pairing, in which I don’t really care about either of the characters, and enjoyed it. This is a sly fic. It begins with one thing and ends with something completely different. I’m not telling you what ‘cos that would be a spoiler, but be sure to read it to the end because here the end is what makes if not the whole fic, then half of it. As for the other half, it’s interesting to read. It’s atmospheric and weird, and intriguing enough in its weirdness so that you want to read on to puzzle it out. Impressive!

Suppliance of a Minute, by vissy ##
Albus Dumbledore/Gellert Grindelwald, NC-17, short. Summary: Two months of madness starts with a minute. Warnings: 16 year old, dub con, bondage.

Wow. I’m absolutely blown away and speechless. This story is my dream come true; this is the Albus/Gellert story I’ve been desperately waiting for, hoping for and not daring to hope. It’s short and it’s very written but I find neither length nor sophisticated style a shortcoming. It’s amazing how well everything works here and how much the author shows in just one scene. The magic! Young Albus’s feelings and thoughts! The sex, OMFG! The incredible mixture of innocence and corruption, the trail to the future, every freaking thing! Amazing!

Though the night yield no glimmer, by Scoradh (or here) #
Draco/Goyle; R. Summary: Draco/Goyle. (Are you still there?) Set post-war and victory. When you’re on the losing side, you don’t expect the hero’s treatment. Draco learns what it is to live when everything you once knew no longer exists — and finds it just as he never imagined.

Draco & Co, driven out of the Wizarding world, have to learn to live among Muggles. Draco and Goyle work in a restaurant as dishwashers and live in a godawful hostel. All you who love your Draco to suffer, run and read. Everybody else, please, do it too. This isn’t a most conventional pairing, but the author makes it work. They make sense together the way they are here, and are really charming. Wonderful fic!

Transformation, by Arsenic Jade (or here) #
Remus/Kingsley; PG-13. Summary: Remus is still in a cycle of starting over. Kingsley’s been pining for quite some time.

The Turning of the Tide, by Delphi #
Moody/Kingsley; NC-17. Summary: Loyalty, duty, and the last days of the war.

A wonderful story! It tells us about the time when young Kingsley just got apprenticed to Moody when Moody still had all his bits attached; how Kingsley learned to be a good Auror; how they worked together, and much more. The plot is fantastic, and their relationship is so real! There’s nothing romantic but there’s love and true comaraderie. A fic like this is what one can wish for any rare pairing. Fabulous story, go read!

Untitled, by justwallpaper (entrecasteaux) #
Sirius/James, PG-13, short. It was written for the 1sentence community, which gives you 50 prompts, and you then write one sentence for each prompt.

Untitled epistolary fic, by Arkady (wired lizard) #
Dumbledore/Grindelwald, R, shortish. Summary: Being a correspondence between Albus P.W.B. Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, and being also somewhat unedited and in need of a title, but done, in the end, for the Greater Good.

First of all, thank you to those of you who pointed me to this story. This is what I wanted. I said that I didn’t want an unhappy ending? Well… Ah. Erm. Well, firstly, I did say that I’d take any if the writing is good. And secondly, this is exactly what I meant when I said I wanted a peaceful ending, meaning that I wanted them to keep in touch and sort of make peace in the years that followed their affair. But I’m afraid I’m not making sense. So, to clarify: above, I’m talking of this post of mine, from yesterday. Now for the story, if you are still here.

Or maybe not quite yet. I’m rambling again as I did in my comment for the author ‘cos I’m still rather overwhelmed, my thoughts are still too tangled and emotions, raw. So I’m trying to write a rec while at the same time, in fact, trying to escape it. But I see this is not doing any good, so I’ll belt up and try again.

This is an owl exchange between Dumbledore and Grindelwald that spans decades: sometimes several owls a year, other times an owl per several years, poking at old wounds, trying to resolve old issues and adding new ones. I’m feeling tender as a bruise after it. But also very glad that I read it ‘cos it told me something important. And I feel it will be stewing somewhere inside me for days. Go read!

PS: there’s one thing I think I should point out because I’m weird about such stuff: American spelling. It doesn’t bother me in 3d person fics, but it does in the 1st person ones, and especially in epistolary bits. But I confess that I noticed it only once here and then forgot, entranced with the story.

I’ve read a whole lot of your Harry/Draco recs, and I thought I’d rec you a story that (I think) fits your style. It’s Percy/Oliver (not sure if you like that since I don’t see any here), and it’s terrific. The title is “In A Time Of Uncertainty”. It’s by Marauder and can be found here: http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=4309&font=&size=
It’s a great story and I think it would be a good addition to your Other Pairing list, since you have no Percy/Oliver fics. I found this fic (and many other wonderful P/O fics) at Eloise Lovelace’s rec list (found here: http://percyoliver.pbwiki.com/Eloise%20Lovelace%20Recommends ). If you’re at all interested in Percy/Oliver, you should definitely check it out.

Hey! Im soo desperately searching this one fic! I think I once read it on your page, thats why Im asking you whether you might know it and can tell me where to find it?

Its a Harry/Scorpius, I think two parts. In the second part of it Harry visits Hogwarts and finds Scorpius wearing a schoolgirls uniform because of a bet he lost to Albus.

Please? Can someone help me find this fic again?

Thanks, Eva! Not quite my thing but was interesting enough to keep my attention :)

To Katrin: I’m sure I’ve read it but not sure which one it could be :) Try looking in my next gen recs maybe here (scroll down to the bottom section).
