How to Highlight Search Terms with the Google Toolbar
The Google Toolbar adds a wide variety of features and options to your Web browser, including the ability to search Google using a custom search field. This works in a similar fashion to the Google search engine Web page, and has some additional features that help you search the Web and locate information easier and faster than ever. Using the Highlight function on the Google Toolbar, you can also highlight your search terms as they appear on Web pages, so you don't have to waste time hunting them down.

- Latest version of Internet Explorer or Firefox
- Google Toolbar
- Operating system: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows ME or Windows 98

Enabling and Using the Highlight Function in Internet Explorer

Click the Settings button, click Options then choose the More tab.

Check the box labeled Highlight, then click OK to save your changes and exit the window.

Perform a Google search as normal.

Highlight your search terms on Web pages by clicking the Highlight button on the Google Toolbar.

Enabling and Using the Word Find Feature in Firefox

Click the Options button, then choose the More tab.

Check the box labeled Word Find, then click OK to save your changes and exit the window.

Perform a Google search using the search field in the Google Toolbar. As you type words into the search field, they will also appear on the toolbar.

Hit Enter to see your search results. Clicking on one of the search words in the toolbar will highlight the first instance of that word in the Web page. Each successive click will highlight the next appearance of that word.

Tips & Warnings

You do not have to search to highlight words or use the Word Find feature. Simply type the words you're interested in into the search box (but do not press Enter) to highlight or find them on the Web page you are currently reading.

Note that the Word Find feature is not available with the Internet Explorer version of the Google Toolbar.

The Word Find feature only works when you type words into the search field in the Google Toolbar-it will not work for any other type of search, including searches performed from the Google homepage.

To remove the Highlight or Word Find buttons from your toolbar, carry out the same steps as you would take to enable it, but uncheck the boxes instead of checking them.

This option was taken out in 2008 :( but if you press CTRL F It will open a window on the bottom that has the highlight option. This works in IE and Firefox
