look at this:

it should be similar to 4301 unit:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=89931&highlight=

in first case serial helps you with diagnostic.

set your laptop/desktop 192.168.100.8, open commandline and ping 192.168.100.250 endless loop.

and AFTER that start belkin and leave all buttons alone. see what happens.
you may do this with .2.x and .1.x also.

the really last option could be setting flashpin to ground.

I had seen that link as well, but was not sure how similar the units (F7D8302/F7D8301) were, and if the pinouts were the same.

I had read that the 2 units were actually quite different internally (chips and specs). I have opened the case on mine and there are some slight differences. The pins are in the same location and look the same but the nvram chip is a different model number. Even the Broadcom chips are different models.

Can anyone here confirm that the pinout on an F7D8301 is in fact "[1]POS [2]RX [3]TX [4]GND"?

I should have the serial cable between the 17th and the 23rd of this month.

Here is some helpful information:

F7D8301 v1

Broadcom BCM4718A1KFBG
Broadcom BCM53115SKFBG
EtronTech EM68B16CWPA-25h
cFeon EN29lV640B-90TIP

Got it, thanks. I guess I am just nervous I will zap something. I will start with the "nvram erase" and also grab the output into a text file so that I can offer up if I need help. I will also look to see if the IP is set and if I can get into the CFE mini web server on the address that the serial console lists (if any).

I have cable and minicom can see the /dev/ttyUSB0 device. However it never shows online in minicom and I see nothing on screen to suggest it is booting when I plug in power supply to router.

I confirmed with multimeter that the 3.3 and GND pins are 1 and 4 on router.

I tried [+ TX RX -] and [+ RX TX -] (not using +).
I have jumped the TX and RX on serial cable and done the echo test and it passes.
I have set minicom to the following:

Bits per second = 115200
Data Bits = 8
Parity = none
Stop bits = 1
Flow control = none

I never see anything indicating a connection to the router.

What now?

Linux comes with the Prolific driver built in the kernel. It recognizes the serial adapter and sets it up on /dev/ttyUSB0. If there was no driver I would not have been able to do the echo test by jumping the TX and RX wires on the serial cable, or even get minicom to recognize the serial device for that matter.

I am clueless at this point but this is the same exact behavior that I got from the router I sent back and now this one is doing the same thing. Both routers died as soon as I flashed the big.

maybe there´s something wrong with the cable. belkins are tricky. someone reported in my belkin thread a disappeared eth0 device after 30/30/30 similar happend to me.

test cable with another unit that has a serial port.
or test under windows.

Can't do that, I do not have another router and I do not have a Windows machine either. I will have to get a friend with a Windows laptop to come over this weekend I guess.

I tried with the GND unplugged and it says online and gives a string of dial codes in minicom as soon as the device initializes but still not boot output when I plug in the router.

I must be doing something wrong with pinouts or this router is dead completely.

The only set top box I have belongs to my cable provider so that is a no go.

I tried with hyper terminal on a Windows latop (after installing driver). It sees the serial cable on COM6 and again no output at all. I tried enter, space, and ctrl+c and no change. I tried un-plugging and plugging back in... no change. I tried putty as well. No change.

My next step may have to be a jtag cable.

Eko, any thoughts?

Hello new here. I picked up an F7D8302 at a good price with hopes of using it as my audiogalaxy/squeezebox/bluray library, primary router and if your builds have both bands fast and stable I would get a second as a wired and wireless ap. I guess I need miniDLNA and USB support. I also back stuff up to my desktop so I would need the 5GHZ to transfer and stream HD music and movies

If everything works I would be happy to donate snacks or charity donations or something (nothing too huge so broke but if its tax deductible better).

What firmware would you reccomend? Ive flashed the F7D7302 with ddwrt and some wrt54gs with the same.

Thanks to the community for the help in getting me this far.
