Bubba Smith died from an overdose of diet pills, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner report released Wednesday.
TMZ reported that the official coroner's report on Smith's Aug. 3 death listed "acute phentermine intoxication" as the first cause of death. Phentermine is a drug used to speed weight loss by suppressing appetite.
The former Baltimore Colts All-Pro, who became famous for roles in film, television and commercials after his career, was found dead this summer in his Los Angeles home. At the time, authorities believed the 66-year-old died of natural causes.
Smith was the first pick of the 1967 draft, won a Super Bowl with the Colts during the 1970 season and made an All-Pro team as a defensive end in 1971. He later appeared in the "Police Academy" movies and memorable advertisements from Miller Lite.
he seemed to be a great human being sad. rip
sorry to hear.....good athlete, funny actor, great commercials! We all worry about weight and look what the medical profession does...."your not healthy unless you weigh X amount of pounds.....eat this-eat that".
If your liver can not process unnatural things properly it will dump it into the body as is. He may not have known that was happening. It will do damage quickly . Toxicity is toxicity.
Diet pills are no good - don't take it. What you really need is a set of good friends, family, bf/gf to help you control your diet and get on an exercise program. Start off with walking more, take the stair and park farthest away from the entrance.
Supplement are not good - they'll give you gallstone, kidney stones.
Was it Suicide? No mention if he had financial, marraige, or health problems. Saw an article that 90% of ex- NFL players end up on the skids and broke. Would like to see the real story-- not this Opps! took to many diet pills.
This article is the funniest thing I've read today! Even funnier than the "Juggleo Gangs"!
Took one Dexitrim Max Daily when I was 30 years old cause I thought I was fat { weighed 130 } after a couple months had a massive heart attack. Drs. said it was the Dexitrim. After that figured if people didnt like me fat they werent gonna like me any skinnier ! 59 years old now and weigh 127 just because I dont eat a lot of junk food.
This is old news ,we dont care what bubba died of .MOVE ONE to better news
Rip mr. smith aka officer hightower, you will be missed.
To all of you uniformed, hypocritical poor souls who think supplements should be banned, educate yourself and think before reacting.
There is a reason you have a brain.
There is a reason for the label DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
ANY OVERDOSE MAY KILL.
Don't blame the supp, the fault is with the user.
Swallow a handful of aspirin and see how you fare.
Swallow a handful of sleeping pills and see how you fare.
You should be embarrased to even post comments when you do not know what you are talking about.
Take up a new hobby that doesn't publically humiliate yourself
Oh. Football player. I saw the name "Bubba" and thought he must have been another GOP presidential candidate.
Awww, I loved him, he was so funny!
he was a true actor, people and a great person.
there's alot of stuff going on in the new's that i dont give a crap about, but this is truly sad,by far one of the best moment's from police academy was when he stole those two racist guy's car to learn how to drive n he just rip's the seat right out and sits in the back, then when the guy come's up to the window talking smack to him and he realize's that he's in the back seat and that guy just ran off lololol.may you rest in piece bubba smith ( officer hightower) ,
R.I.P. Hightower
66 yrs old and taking speed? bad decision
these diet pills are nothing but speed what do you tink they do to your heart .they should take them off market .people can learn to push their feet out under the table they would not need them .
He must have been desparate to lose weight. It's a shame that this country panders to radical terrorists, illegal law breakers, and hate mongers, but doesn't give a @#$% about the way overweight people are treated.
For those too young to remeber him when he played for the Colts, Bubba was more than an outstanding linesman- he was the heart and soul for the team, a natural leader to his teammates. And he stayed loyal to his team, too. When the AFC started taking off and stealing players from the NFL, Bubba stayed with the Colts even though he could of played on any team in either league. Rest your oars, Bubba.
who is bubba smith
Overdose of diet pills..sheesh, the man had money he could've built his own spa and work out training center, he did not have to die from diet pills. Take those pills off the market already! RIP Bubba.
R i p big guy!!!!!!!!!!
RIP-Bubba...
Lets have a witch hunt for the doc that gave him the pills like they are doing for jacksons doc. Everyone knows that you can not stop a doper from taking dope until they want to stop so ods are not anyones fault but their own. All these celebs that kill themselves do it to themselves just like anyone else that ods or drinks and drives.
