Renting a Truck

Renting a truck is generally something that you will need to do if you are moving.

Sometimes your friend's pick-up truck or your own minivan just won’t cut it! Is it possible to get a cheap van rental or cheap truck rental?

Cargo van rental or moving truck rental can be made easier if you do some research on your needs:

What size truck do I need?

The size truck you need will depend on the amount of cargo that you need to carry; you must take in to consideration both weight and volume.

The most common types of moving vans are:

  • Cargo Vans: cargo van rentals typically offer 300 cubic feet of capacity with a load capability of around 3100 pounds (approximately 1-2 rooms’ worth of stuff!)

  • 10 foot Trucks: typically offers 380 cubic feet of capacity with a load capability of around 3100 pounds (approximately 1-2 rooms’ worth of stuff!)

  • 16 foot Trucks: typically offers 800 cubic feet of capacity with a load capability of around 3400 pounds (approximately 3-4 rooms’ worth of stuff!)

  • 24 foot Trucks: typically offers 1380 cubic feet of capacity with a load capability of around 12,000 pounds (approximately 5-8 rooms’ worth of stuff!)

  • All these types of truck and cargo van rental typically include: Air Conditioning, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Power Brakes, AM/FM Stereo and Tie Down Slats.

The 16 foot and 24 foot trucks will generally also include: Load Ramps, Tow Hitch and a Lift Gate.

Budget truck rental offers local and one-way rentals, with nearly 2800 U.S. locations and 30,000 trucks nationwide.

They also offer Moving Equipment such as furniture pads, car carriers, boxes, pre-packaged box kits and moving supplies.

As with any rental, make sure to carefully research all policy requirements of renting a truck, such as age requirements, credit card requirements, additional driver policies and mileage restrictions (most cargo van rentals have a pay per mile plan as opposed to unlimited mileage, which is common with a car rental).

Check carefully about insurance coverage, either those that are offered by the truck rental company or coverage that may apply through your own insurance policy.|

Booking in advance is key to availability when it comes to renting a truck. Keep in mind that the majority of truck rentals (and moves) occur at the end or beginning of the month and weekends are always booked first!
