**Pre-requisite: Having taken at least one painting class, or experience in abstract painting.
These are small classes up to 6 students, so hurry to reserve your space.

Line is mysterious and paradoxical; it may symbolize a powerful connectedness - a thread that ties objects or individuals together, but also may fulfill the opposite function of division, acting as a borderline that separates shapes from one another. Line can create texture, space, or rhythm.
In this class you’ll enhance your vocabulary of compositional elements by exploring the various functions, types, and possible applications of line in abstract painting. Glazing techniques will be encouraged and familiarized.
Here are a few aspects you will play with:
-Lines as scratches, scribbles and graffiti
-Collaged lines (“found lines”)
-Lines as texture, covering certain shapes with lines, painting with continuous lines
-Lines created by the meeting of two surfaces—“no line”; lines as division, creating lines by painting over surfaces, “leave out lines” (Foreground-- background relationship)
-Thick vs. thin lines, light vs. dark lines, line as movement and energy
-Lines as symbols or letters---just to mention a few.
