About us

India India | Tamil Nadu

Integrated Rural Workers Organization (IRWO) run multiple projects for women, children, Dalits, the tribal population, and Muslim minorities in around 52 villages in Tamil Nadu.

We help them by providing adequate resources and initial support so they can go on to become self-reliant with the ability to strengthen their own growth.

Our self-help groups for women encourage and provide capacity building and enterprising skills so an alternative income can be generated through a vocation or small business. Trade unions have also been set-up for all workers employed in fishing as most of these villages surround coastal areas.

Children born into disadvantaged families are given the opportunity to be educated through our evening classes that have been introduced in 15 villages.

We are also passionate about saving the environment and our recent project had a significant number of people involved in planting over 10,000 trees. Quite the change after witnessing so many being hacked down for modern needs.

So far, we have helped over 30,000 rural people across 52 coastal villages and are proud to say that we are working on helping even more.
