Fine, I'm a nerd and the lot of you don't know what the fuck you're debating about.

[–]phaedrusalt 30 points31 points ago

That's okay, 'cause we're unanimous that the House is full of idiots.

[–]SuperPhallicon[S] 4 points5 points ago

Perhaps we really live in a nerdocracy and they manipulate who ends up in the House and Senate as a sort of crude comedy.

[–]phaedrusalt 5 points6 points ago

A slapstick government? That would explain a lot!

[–]Yondee 0 points1 point ago

Boy do they have a sick sense of humor.

Calling people who know what an IP address is "nerds" is like calling people that know how the human human body works in order to treat illnesses "wizards."

The gentlewoman from Texas aspires to be one. Huzzah.

[–]esoterick 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I like how she is standing by her words; I really hope she doesn't back down.

Facepalm

[–]zchy2 3 points4 points ago

It should be said that Rep. Lufgren, who said this, is squarely against SOPA and said this in support of one of Rep. Polis' attempted amendments of the bill.

Really poor word choice though. I applaud her attempts at understanding the technology, but classifying people who understand the simple concept of a "domain name" or an "IP address" as a "nerd" only further marginalizes the very people who made this whole internet thingymajig happen. Such a sad world we live in.

Maybe we could code up a GUI in VB to track their fucking brains

[–]racuerex 3 points4 points ago

I've been listening for 20 mins....and the majority of these people are idiots.

this is hilarious. ms. jackson reads out a tweet by a republican member of the committee who says he was surfing the internet while she was talking. some other dude demands striking the word "offensive" from the record.

edit: they get the stenographer to read back what she said.

edit: they are getting a parliamentarian to convince her to do that because it impunes the integrity of a member of congress.

she should not back down.

A person knowing what an IP address is, is no more nerdy than a person knowing what a telephone number is. Its 2011, and these people don't understand simple aspects of modern technology.

Did you all hear the guy talking about how a toaster with an IP is not a website but if it is like toaster.com it is? I have never facepalmed so hard...

[–]SuperPhallicon[S] 3 points4 points ago

I hear they're storing pirated data in bread now. Subtle, disposable, and delicious. Mmmmmm.

[–]mweathr 1 point2 points ago

I make bread with pirated Monsanto wheat.

[–]zchy2 4 points5 points ago

Facepalmed about what? Rep. Polis knew what he was talking about, he ran several internet businesses and is one of the few (or only?) representatives in congress with a technology background.

[–]ameyer505 0 points1 point ago

My point was not that he does not know what he is talking about but more the fact that 1) Was that the best example you could give? and 2) The fact that he had to explain was an IP address was to the rest of Congress

[–]SniperGX1 2 points3 points ago

So what if toaster.com is being served from a toaster with an IP address?

[–]kkjdroid 0 points1 point ago

Makes me want to clean out a giant toaster and build a computer inside. Heck, I should have had that idea before.

[–]Arkadia488 0 points1 point ago

I really shouldn't listen to this. I don't want to get mad.

[–]LOLGTFO 0 points1 point ago

Geek... I'm a Geek, not a Nerd. Come at me Bro

[–]reddit8008132 1 point2 points ago

[–]AstroFighter 1 point2 points ago

This is kind of hilarious actually.

[–]morris858 0 points1 point ago

In this day and age, i count the word "nerd" as a compliment.

[–]Neato -1 points0 points ago

Fine, I'm a nerd and the lot of you don't know what the fuck you're debating about.

[–]jimbobtheguitardude 0 points1 point ago

That's ok. Isn't it cool to be nerd now? No? Oh...ok....<walks away>
