The New York State Department of Labor is making available $5 million in Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding to develop and enhance the occupational skills of New York State's workforce to support the strategic plans of the Governor's Regional Economic Development Councils.

 

Eligible applicants will be able to apply for one, two or three projects described in the solicitation, which will support the following training activites: Existing Employee Training Program; New Hire Training Program; and, Unemployed Worker Training Program.

 

Maximum amount of funding per applicant will be $100,000, with a $5,000 per trainee cost. Businesses applying under more than one project will only be eligible for a maximum award of $100,000 for all projects.

04/25/12 H-1B Registered Nurse Upgrade Project RFP #T-05

The New York State Department of Labor is making available up to $1.7 million through an H-1B Technical Skills Training Grant fund it has been awarded by the US Department of Labor to support entities interested in helping to upgrade the academic credentials of currently employed nurses. The purpose of this RFP is to provide up to $250,000 to employers or union-sponsored training organizations interested in assisting Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN) to complete or enroll in a post secondary school approved by the New York State Education Department to upgrade their nursing credentials.

The grants will support innovative projects that improve the recruitment, hiring, training, employment and retention of women in aprenticeships within industries such as advanced manufacturing, transportation and construction. Eligible applicants include consortia that comprise a community-based organization, a local workforce investment area and a Registered Apprenticeship program sponsor.

This initiative will combine eligible private funding sources with 50% federal FSET funds to expand work focused education and training services to low income households receiving food stamps in New York State.
