I have the same problem trying to manage the conversation ball. I can focus on one person to the exclusion of other people. I haven't figured out whether this is an auditory problem as I have APD, something to do with slow processing speeds or whether this is a social disability.

Your thoughts?

I'm glad you found a small community that you can live happily in. I'm well aware of how smaller communities allow you to be seen better--it makes perfect sense. Sometimes, though, being seen just makes things worse. Being seen and accepted is the key. It sounds like you've found that for your kids. I hope you can keep it!

Being seen and accepted is the key. It sounds like you’ve found that for your kids. I hope you can keep it!

I couldn't agree with you more. We chose to move to the town we live in 5 years ago-because it is small. I knew that having less people would give my kids a chance to be seen. I don't know if that makes sense. But because the amount of kids in each grade is so small-my kids aren't over looked, or dismissed. They are part of the community-because people have taken the time to really see them. My Oscar struggles the most with communication-and yet, he knows everyone-and they know him. It is helping him to learn to navigate the very confusing waters of social skills and behaviors..and at the same time-helping others to see that not everyone communicates in the same way..
