This is in response to the Adv. published in ABP (19.12.2010) by BMI. I have been diagonosed Diabates Mellitus in July,2010. I am 37+, male. My hight and weight are 167 cm and 61 Kg. respectively. Any history of Diabates has not been detected in my parents. My mother is healthy at 60, father died 15 years back at the age of 59 due to bone fracture. Is it possible for me to get rid of this chronic desease through any means of treatment ? If there is any hope kindly suggest where should I go??

I had an operation of my GB stone on 13th April under Dr Ramana at Fortis Hospitals, Anandapur, Kolkata. I was so scared about the operation, but when I met Dr Ramana he gave me a huge boost and the confidence I had seen in his eyes also gave me huge confidence. Frankly speaking I met lot of big surgeons in Kolkata before I reached to Dr Ramana, but all are of same cat i.e. less interaction with the patient unlike Dr Ramana. I would say Dr Ramana is not a God, but he is patient’s best friend. In a nutshell he is awesome , confident and very down to earth.

Hello Dr,
My hubby is 32 yrs/ 180 cm/ 82 Kg…he is type 2 DM for the past one hour, and because of his strong family history- we are considering the surgery soon….Would like to know if Ileal interposition is possible without much reduction in stomach size? Please do answer me Dr…
September 22, 2011 at 6:16 PM
Ms. Nair,
If you want IT as a metabolic procedure, you should do so knowing it is experimental in nature. I would not recommend it on face value.
October 2, 2011 at 9:09 PM
thanks for the reply Dr…saw it just now…but why do some doctors recommend it? do sleeve gastretomy has any hormonal advantage on its own? some are saying that we can minimize the stomach reduction and can keep a large sleeve…in that case they calm that the weight loss will be too less- say about 5-6 Kg only…also one can get the advantage of the IT procedure like better and fast GLP 1 secretion…
We are confused..guide us pls…..
October 2, 2011 at 9:32 PM
Ms. Nair: Well, whatever doctors may say, if science be your guide, then we don’t have strong reasons to lean on SGIT. I would still say ‘no’. Sleeve does have hormonal changes that cause diabetes remission but cannot be recommended in your case.

It is a year since I set off to Calcutta to have my surgery and what a year it has been. I have gone from 115kgs to a current 81kgs and down 5 dress sizes. When I think back to when I first arrived at the clinic and was met by the wonderful Saul, and compare what I looked like then to to how I look now, the difference is unbelievable. As you know, Dev died in August 2011 and the adjusting to life without him has been incredibly difficult but one of my greatest comforts is how happy he was to witness the new me. Of course the weight loss hasn’t turned my life into an bed of roses, far from it, but the inner strength which I have gained as a result of the achievement means I am coping with the challenges from a position of positivity. When I look in the mirror I sometimes have to pinch myself at what I see reflected back at me, and I smile, sometimes through tears, but smile nevertheless…..love to all Blondiexx
