Teens And Blogging

Create a blog

Every day, blogs are created by people of all ages and from all walks of life, but when it comes to blogging, teen writers are truly on the cutting edge of the
movement. Since today’s teens are the first people to grow up with the internet around them, they usually almost naturally know how to use web technology to express themselves. Older writers often experience a kind of learning curve when they begin to blog, but many young people find that using a word processor and blogging software or going through wordpress guide feels more natural and direct a mode of communication than writing in a diary ever could.

One reason why blogs are so popular is due to the ability to blend anonymity and visibility. A teenager can invite friends and peers to read his or her blog with a simple email, thereby winning attention or possibly even praise. Of course, with visibility usually comes the possibility of embarrassment, but the fact that it is possible to blog anonymously with an invented handle or nickname negates a lot of the potential for humiliation. Many a blogging teen lives in fear that a parent or guardian will discover his or her blog, but by publishing under an alias a teenager can spill his or her secrets without fear of being traced thus giving them a sense of blog security.

Outside the world of blogging, teen writers often have very limited opportunities to be published. Publishing companies may not be so welcomed with the idea of publishing young writers since they may not be as credible as the older writers. Adolescents may be downhearted and not want to write or publish their work because of this. By blogging, young people can begin to gain a following of readers without first having to win the attention and support of an editor or publisher who may not be very interested in teenaged authors and eventually make money blogging.

Since blogs give teens the chance to exercise their technical skills, get attention without giving away their privacy and show people their writing skills without needing the scrutiny of publishing companies, it is no surprise that a lot of teens end up blogging. For some teens, blogging is actually a social thing to do where they get the chance to meet other people. A lot of teens have discovered that having a blog is a good way to self-express themselves and sometimes even to win positive feedbacks from friends.
