The 1970 Boss Mustang the most exciting and purpose built race car from for in the late 60s and 70s. In 1969 the 302 boss engine was offered which was the first time the “Boss” had been put into the Mustang – a legend was truly born. The 1970 Boss Mustang is still the crowd favourite today.

Is this an engine or a car? Or both? It’s a little like the question about the “chicken or the egg”. So before we get into the awesome 1970 boss mustang – we need to first get a little history lesson.

Grabber Blue

In 1968 – Bunkie Knudsen came over for GM to Ford and at this time the main focus was two fold :

for NASCAR racing to get the      429 ci “blue crescent” engines certified, for this you had to have 500      sold in production. At this time it didn’t mater what the engine was sold      in it just had to be an in a one of the manufactures cars or in the case      of the Boss in several and none of these where even the one it raced      in.  Truly this was the case in      NASCAR at the time the Torino was king and was given a 429 power plant and      the Boss legend started;

to design and build a Camaro Z28 beater. This was done with the Boss Mustang originally in 1969. These also competed in the Trans Am Circuit.

So what was the Boss 302, it was the engine the great ford Windsor bottom end with a set of Cleveland top end machined to fit to the waterways within the engine – but with the studs that bolt it up being the same no major engineering work was required. The one thing that was custom or very special was the inlet manifold, for it need to be slightly wider to cater for the different shape of the heads (whilst it is commonly know that the Cleveland heads are bigger, you would therefore expect a smaller inlet manifold this is not the case and the manifold is actually slightly wider. Ford had a special boss manifold cast for the job, it was aluminum and a great addition.

So back to the main question with this in mind its fair to say the engine came first – it was only when they looked at naming sports car that option to call it a Boss and not SR2 that it really took and a legend was born.

In 1969 the 302 boss engine was offered which was the first time the “Boss” had been put into the Mustang and whilst limited in numbers only 1628 small block 302s and 857 large blocks were made – a legend was truly born.

In 1970 the boss was given new colors and a stripe kit make over, it just looks awesome and with the Grabber color range these where hot items. This time, a massive 7013 1970 Boss Mustang units were sold and another 499 of the big block units this was an incredible outcome given the overall mustang numbers where in decline.

Options for the 1970 Boss Mustang included, Grabber paint choices (blue/Green and Orange), the legendary functional Shaker, taco 8000 rpm, re- enforced engine bay, off-set rear shockers, 4 speed manual gear box (close ratio), Detroit locker 9” differential and 3 wheel choices, Good Year F60 tires plus more.

The Boss did last into 1971 but was really scaled back 1806 units and no longer possessed the traditional boss engine and no big blocks where made that year, this was the end of the era. But luckily not the end of the legend, much like the 1965 Shelby the legend still live on.

The 1965 GT 350 this is the original Shelby, I should stop writing now and really need to say no more, but here is the thing – I just want to write more. The thought of this car always makes my hair on the back of my neck stand up. The image seems to be imbedded in my brain, stop it I here your say, well not just yet.

Here is why, this car was the first to:

Be commissioned by ford to carry the Carol Shelby name and snake bite logo,

It was about true performance and speed, some say a little rough around the edges,

More powerful that its 1966 predecessor and definitely a style that has lived on until today and will no doubt into the future.

So lets get some details and look under the hood:

The engine for the Shelby was based on the HiPo engine option and then had additional modifications of the carburetor and other racing parts. This is where the cheeky 350 came from it was meant to represent (or at least partiality) horsepower.
For the body and styling it just took the mustang to a new level, the less is more effect on the grill, the scooped bonnet which would lead the way for the shaker in the later models. Wheels, rear side windows (just to be different) side scoops and the racing stripes, which have been copied for generations, both for fords mustangs and other vehicle makers.

So we all agree that the styling was important for this classic the 1965 GT 350, look at the photo the car just has attitude forget how it sounds (which is awesome) it just has attitude, big time.

The all important specifications and production numbers:

Engine: Windsor 289 271 HP
Transmission: 4 speed Aluminum Borg Warner T-10
Front Steering: modified (1 inch drop) of control arm, 1” inch sway bar.
Wheels: 15” * 7” rear 15” * 6” front
Brakes Rear Wheel Disks – Kelsey Hayes

Production Numbers : 525 GT 350 and another 37 GT 350 R (racing).

The regular Nascar racer Fusion has been taken over the Mustang in an all round first. The Fusion, a family sedan on the racetrack? NASCAR and automakers wanted to get their hands on something with a hotter reputation. The Ford Mustang is the car for the Job, origins and racing history back to the Shelby 1965.

The NASCAR Mustang makes its long-awaited debut at the Daytona International Speedway on Friday for NASCAR’s nationwide series, and Fords Mantangs will be out in force.

“NASCAR came to us and wanted to differentiate the Nationwide Series from the Cup Series,” says Pat DiMarco, Ford’s NASCAR Program manager. “Initially we looked at Fusion to keep the branding the same across both series, but when they really wanted to differentiate it, the natural choice was Mustang.”

These absolutely well turned out cars are replicas made to carry the looks and styling of the original and will leave the Fans in stand with a sense of history.

Which Mustang is that? A fun and easy to read guide to know your Mustang Muscle.

The history of the mustang and which one everyone remembers, well this is easy. People do typically remember the first mustang made or at least that body style. This style ran for 2 official years however the first model was ready early and actually became know as the 64 1/2 whilst all the components weren’t yet full Mustang specification the car was ready in its full glory for launch in April 1964. The cars as it turned out where all marked as 1965 models and to the day make for great reading and debate particularly over the introduction of the fastback in the Summer of 64 as the official launch of the 1965 model and the introduction of the GT and the 3rd body type. No lets go back a few steps and cover of the Launch and how the 1964 Convertible and the 1964 Coupe (notchback) found there way to Dearborn for manufacturing almost six months ahead of the original plan.

The 1964 ½ as its become affectionately known can be identified most easily by its date code pre 31 July of 1964, this is when production of the 1965 model was then started (August 17th). The other traits include the engine options and the V8 standard was a 260ci not the 289ci that we all remember, but even in these early days the 289 was an option in the 4V configuration (4 barrel carburetor). So where did the controversy come in well, simply it’s the fact that they are all marked 1965 – even though the codes use to nominate the engines and colors where different, the other feature include generators not alternators used which also finds its way to the gauge with GEN being light up when a problem occurs under the hood on the item in question.

The additional controversy is then around the introduction of the fastback and the existence of some models know as “crossovers” these cars have all the hallmarks of a 1964 ½ car but according to ford simply don’t exist – “All Fastbacks are full 1965 models”.

In addition in 1965 the GT became available both as factory delivered or dealer installed options – this later and even more so now allows phase 1 mustangs with the appropriate engine options to be presented as genuine GTs without too much to be challenged at times (Buyer be ware). In 65 the Shelby Mustang become available and with thousands of them sold become an overnight hit both on the street and racetrack. Of course all engine where now standardizes he 289 for the V8s and the 200Ci for the sixes.

In many peoples eyes the 1966 is the most popular “the peoples award if you like”, whilst only subtle changes where made to the body styling they where very successful and liked by all. The GT continued as an option and the famous Hertz Shelby was borne. More color options for trim and exterior and a solid reputation on the street and track.

Once again while this original Mustang look and shape it is possibly the one most recognized. It has not found its way back as a retro style fit into the later models – I wonder when that will be?

The abbreviation GMAC stands for GMAC Financial Services. In the former years it was popularly known General Motors Acceptance Corporation. It is a bank in the United States that provides different financial programs that include various aspects of mortgage operations as well as insurance. The GMAC financial services, has its operations, around the world in approximately 40 countries.

In the year 2008, around 75% out of the 6450 general motor dealers were provided finances. In a crucial attempt to help the company survive, on December 24, 2008, the Federal Reserve accepted the application of GMAC to become a bank holding firm. This was done so that GMAC could have access to a huge sum of money in government aid. Customers can have maximum benefit from the financial offers of the GMAC through a number of auto loan options.

Auto loans according to gmacauto.com can be availed in two different ways. One way it’s the lease financing option and the other is the traditional retail financing. The leasing financial option allows you to pay on for the period of time to plan to use the vehicle.

Fees, taxes, and rent charges are added to the same. While in the traditional retail financial, you are allowed to use the vehicle for a period of few years that is generally around 15000 miles for one particular year. To explain this, an example can be given, where suppose a vehicle costs around 20,000 dollars.

GMAC allows you to make payment for the entire amount along with the additional interest rate as well as financial charges. After availing the GMAC loan for the auto, you are required to arrange to pay the amount of the vehicle that you intend to use, also called as the ‘used up’ value, during the term of lease, along with the fees, taxes, as well as rent. If the used up value is for example say 9000 dollars as against the cost of the vehicle of 20,000 dollars, then the remaining 11000 dollars amounts to the lease value.

Pay lesser monthly installments:

This GMAC auto loan enables the customers to pay monthly payments that are lesser, and as such you can avail a new vehicle every two to three years where there is no need to sell the old vehicle or trade in the old vehicle. However you are not able to own the vehicle, when you take this loan. At the end of the lease the vehicle has to be returned unless to decide to purchase the vehicle, only if it is specified in the lease agreement.

Credit unions, automotive companies providing financing as well as banks do provide auto loans for which you have to make the necessary application for the same. Some of the general motor dealers have GMAC services located very conveniently as their end.

Avail the SmartBuy loan:

This is another auto loan offered by GMAC, which enables you to own a vehicle for yourself at low monthly payments. This happens because each month you are already paying a portion that you are planning to use every month.

Besides this you are also paying the financial charges. At the end of the contract the choice is yours, whether you wish to return the vehicle or you wish to make a final payment for the vehicle. In your life, the purchase of a car is the second biggest thing, which involves a significantly big amount.

Testing checking the car before the final purchase is very essential, whether you purchase it from a car dealer or privately. By doing a shock absorber test you can identify, if at all any replacement of a part is required.

Checking the interior functioning of the vehicle will help you to understand the mechanical problems if any, which you can avoid purchasing. A thorough mileage check will also be of great help before you buy the car. Some of the car repairing expenses do not get covered under the car warranties and hence through checking and testing is required before the final purchase.

Whether you are getting a no money down car loan or just get a subprime loan find out what GMAC considers wear and tear before getting a GMAC car loan

One choice is to buy a rear-facing infant carseat (suitable for babies up to 20lbs), that will fit your baby snugly through the first few months and often comes with a handle for easy carrying. And, if you are seeking the utmost in convenience, select a travel system. Infant travel systems will include a ready made child car seat and stroller combination.

The downside for the infant carseat is that you’ll spend $60 to $150 on the seat and your child will outgrow it in 6 months to a year. You need to upgrade to some convertible child car seat once your baby reaches 20 lbs.

If this sounds like a concern for you, you can buy a convertible child car seat that will face the rear for the newborn and can turn around to face the front for the baby once he or she reaches 20 lbs.No matter what you choosed to use for your infant, you’ll eventually need a convertible car seat.

Regardless of the choice you make whether to use a convertible child car seat from day one or use a baby car seat until your baby weighs 20 lbs, you will need to buy a convertible car seat at some point. Convertible car seats are larger than infant-only car seats and are which is designed to grow with your child through the toddler years. Most convertible car seats fit babies up to 40 lbs (usually around age 4) and some convert to a booster car seat and are safe for children up to 80 lbs.

Convertible child car seats range in price from $80 to $300.For toddlers weighing more than 40 lbs and big kids, you’ll need a booster car seat.Booster car seats are made for children age 3 or older who weigh at least 40 lbs.

They are designed to use your car’s lap and shoulder seat belts. They literally boost your child into a position that makes it safe to use the car’s seat belt system. Some booster seats provide back support and also you should choose one of these options if the vehicle seat is low or has no head restraint.

A backless option is fine for vehicle seats that offer plenty of support behind the head.Booster child car seats range in price from $60 to $200.

If you're like many other consumers in the United States, you are pinching some pennies at this time. In these difficult economic times, everyone is searching for creative methods to conserve some dollars. Here's one method to hang onto your cash: give some thought to walking to your job or the mall instead of taking the car. Not only will you save on gas and get a little physical activity-you can also be entitled to an invaluable reduction on your auto insurance rates.

If you’re like many other people across the nation, you’re probably pinching some serious pennies today. During these challenging times, everybody is trying to find imaginative methods to conserve a few bucks. Here’s one way to hang onto your dollars: think about walking to work or the grocery store rather than taking the car. You’ll cut fuel costs and get some exercise-you may also be eligible for an invaluable discount on your car insurance rates.

Reduce miles driven, Save premiums Many insurers make available what’s referred to as a “drive less, pay less” plan for drivers who drive less than common miles on their cars annually. Dependent on your insurance provider, you could save as much as 18 percent if you drive under 7,500 miles per year. However, these types of policies are offered only in a few states. If you are looking to conserve cash, check with your insurance company if you may be qualified to apply for this cheaper coverage.

Policy details

The “drive less, pay less” program differs with each and every insurance company. Although some insurance companies will accept your statement on how many miles you drive each year, some need evidence.

You can also find insurers who provide you with increased discounts-but they carefully keep track of their motorists. As an example, at least one carrier requires an OnStar membership to enroll on the drive less plan. Even though an OnStar membership costs just $19 per month, you could save as much as 54 percent on your auto insurance if you drive under 15,000 miles a year under this plan. By executing a quick cost benefit study, many times it is a good idea to spend the additional $19 monthly.

Yet another insurer offers an option to install a tiny, wireless device inside your vehicle to watch your mileage and your driving routines. Although it may be somewhat nerve wracking to be aware that someone is constantly watching, you stand to save lots of cash with this policy.

If you wish to stay away from overpriced car insurance, you can ask your insurance company if they offer a “drive less, pay less” plan. If not, you should consider moving over to some company that has these inexpensive car insurance.

If you are stressed about locating the best auto insurance, don’t delay to browse our site. Numerous resources are available on finding the best auto insurance quotes.

All states now require automobile insurance and it is a crime to operate a motor vehicle without the minimum insurance coverage set by each state. Still the reality is that there are many uninsured drivers on the road. So some states will require that you also purchase uninsured motorist insurance.

Uninsured drivers are ten times more likely to drink, then drive, and three times more likely to get a conviction for their negligent driving. Roughly 15% of drivers carry no insurance. So it is no surprise that one out of every ten drivers has been in an accident with a driver who is uninsured. So what must you do if this should happen to you, and how can you protect yourself in this event?

When the accident happens, you will not know if that other driver has insurance or not, so you must react normally. Take notes on the other car’s model, make, registration number, and license. Also, note the driver’s name and address- even though he might not give you all the right details.

Take notes about the scene of the accident, too, like where road signs were located, or what the lighting and weather were like. Write down what damage there was to the other car and whether that car had its lights on. More information is better than less. Get contact information from any witnesses present. If you have a camera handy, take pictures of the damage, and also try to get a picture of the other driver, since police might need it.

If you have a comprehensive auto insurance policy, your insurer will pay for your car to be repaired but you could lose your no claims discount. And then there’s the issue of your deductible (that’s the first part of the repair expense you have to pay for). You will pay that unless you have a policy that waives the deductible if you’re hit by an uninsured motorist.

Drivers that have their cars insured may carry just the minimum legal limit and this may be less than what is necessary to cover any damages in an accident which is their responsibility. Unless you have underinsured motorist insurance, in incidents where the at-fault driver cannot cover the left over expenses out of pocket, these expenses could be left with you.

The most advantageous approach is to drive defensively, always wear a seatbelt, and to purchase uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage with your vehicle insurance policy.

Despite state laws requiring driver’s to carry Auto Insurance, there are still drivers on the road with no insurance coverage at all. Because of these irresponsible drivers, many states now also require the additional purchase of protection from Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage.

Businesses in the auto industry can be covered under a motor trade insurance policy. Not only would this policy comprehensively cover vehicles, but also the business premises and employees. There is a road risks section, as expected, alongside cover for material damage, buildings and contents, stock and also public and employees liability.

Businesses in the auto industry can take out specialist insurance policies that have been designed specifically for that sector. A motor trade insurance policy will cover the businesses premises and employees on the same policy that covers the vehicles. A combined policy can be negotiated to incorporate cover for public and employee liability, material damage, plus cover for buildings and stock.

A standard auto coverage policy would not be sufficient for businesses in the auto industry, although it is possible for businesses to use them. The standard auto coverage policy will only cover vehicles if an accident or claim happens on a public road, which is obviously a big risk to take. The reason being that most vehicles used, repaired or sold in the auto industry are in garages or on forecourts or other private land.

Motor trade insurance policies are not cheap, and they certainly cost more than a standard policy. It is possible to keep costs down though. One way to reduce your premiums would be to look at and review what exactly your policy covers you for. In lots of cases, businesses end up paying for cover they do not actually need. Therefore, by asking an insurance broker to review your risks and compare them against your policy, you can very often reduce your monthly premiums.

This next tip is so simple that it is often missed by policy holders. A quick and easy way of checking to see if you can get a better premium is to ask you current broker if they can find one for you. Many providers will not take the time to search for a better policy for you unless you actively request it from them. If you are uncomfortable with your current premium, speak with your current broker about possible actions or modifications you can make with your policy.

The third tip to reducing your motor trade insurance premiums is to deliberate switching your insurance provider. While staying loyal to your broker is an amiable trait, it may not be the most cost-effective solution available to you. Many motor trade specialists or brokers can offer tailored policies that suit some businesses much better than it will suit others, they will certainly be able to offer you options that are not available from general insurance providers.

Avoiding these stated tips could turn out to be a huge financial mistake for you or your company if you currently work in the motor trade. Take heed of the advice and you could be seeing much lower insurance premiums.

For most drivers, their car is a necessity; a means of travelling from ‘A’ to ‘B’, to commute to work or merely to taxi the kids about. For others, their cars are a form of escapism, a necessity with benefits, or even a hobby. But so often drivers become complacent and ignore the subtle perils of the open road.

With 30% of traffic accidents occurring less than 1 mile [1] from home and the rise in traffic on the roads (by 12% between 1997 and 2007) [2], it is important that road users are aware of the different dangers that they will be faced with. Ignoring these dangers can cause accidents which can result in costly car insurance premiums, injuries and even fatalities.

Here, in no particular order, we have suggested five hazards motorists should consider when driving.

1) Cyclists
We are all familiar with the environmental benefits of cycling, but anyone can hop on a bike and cycle into the unknown. So few cyclists have taken the cycling proficiency exam, and even fewer follow by the Highway Code [3].

Without high visibility clothing and adequate lighting, many cyclists render themselves invisible until the unsuspecting motorist is driving behind them. Many cut in and out of waiting traffic in jams, with little consideration that they are cutting in and out of the motorist’s view.

2) Children and Teenagers
Children playing in residential streets can cause dangers. Hidden from the view of oncoming traffic, children can appear unexpectidly from in-between parked cars, causing a danger for themselves and road users. It is important that in residential areas and near schools especially, motorists are extra vigilant and maintain the speed limit at all times.

Young children do not only present a hazard to motorists, teenagers also cause accidents due to their lack of concentration. MP3s, hooded clothing and even the use of a mobile phone takes the teenager’s concentration off the of the road. Extra caution should be taken when approaching groups and individual teenagers [4].

3) Speed Cameras
Although they are designed to reduce the number of accidents on a road by reducing speed, drivers actually tend to slow down suddenly, causing a hazard for those driving behind them. It is therefore important to maintain the recommended two second gap [5] stopping distance at all times, to ensure sudden braking is accounted for.

4) Accidents and Road Works
Road works cause a problem when motorists become angered and take risks [6]. It is important that caution is taken when passing through an area with road works, to avoid any hazards.

When accidents do happen, it can cause a distraction to passing traffic. It is crucial that drivers focus on the road ahead rather than any incidents on the roadside.

5) Litter and Rubbish
Litter and rubbish dumped at the road side can spill onto the road, which could get in the drivers way. It is important that motorists are vigilant and are aware of such hazards when driving.

Broken glass, oil and even plastic carrier bags can cause a skid, a blow-out or simply obscure the view of the driver [7].

In all instances of roadside dangers, it is crucial that road users (drivers and pedestrians alike), use caution when on the road and are continuously aware of their surrounds and the hidden dangers that may be lurking at the side of the road.
