This is not an iPad vs. Kindle kind of an article.
I am an Amazon Kindle owner, I like it: it does one job, and does it really well – the time I have spent on books since buying my Kindle has increased significantly since the purchase. I am happy with it.
Lately, various Hebrew ebook stores have been cropping up so I have started pondering reading Hebrew news and books on my Kindle, and than I run into the silly feature: No unicode support in the Kindle.
Apparently, not all is lost, you can change the fonts on the Kindle, however, it does not change the paragraph direction. In addition, thanks to my graphic artist friends I learned to notice that the English font is not as nice as the font that comes with the Kindle originally. Disappointment.
Conversely, in the iPad unicode support is in the box. It’s browser (and supposedly, the bookreading app) can display Hebrew.
Both devices don’t have a Hebrew keyboard, but I guess, from this perspective, I would be less frustrated with the iPad. I did, however, prefer the device that does only one thing, well, even if that one thing is read English books.
Hi Uri, based on this post I was wondering if you found a good hebrew e-reader , I recently got Kindle and am not sure I want to keep it if it will not let me read Hebrew books/newspapers. I also found about e-vrit, have you heard about or tried it ?
Thanks
Aleksandra
e-vrit is nice, but the selection of books is really limited.
You CAN install Hebrew fonts on a Kindle and upload .mobi hebrew content to it.
