SUMMARY:
We seek a highly technical VP of Engineering who is an accomplished technologist, people and project manager. You will bring a track record of delivering on-time high quality large-scale products that delight customers and constituents. You possess a reputation of managing astounding results from distributed teams based out of multiple locations including corporate, remote domestic and international offshore locations. You are a successful collaborator of efforts and ideas to drive the release of high revenue generating products. You are a master tactician at aligning various efforts to one common result of success for all of Exponential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the Engineering Department including Software Development, Quality Assurance, and Production Operations/IT.
Ensures projects are completed on time and according to corporate quality standards.
Facilitates communication upward and across project team including project status, justifications for variances and technical information (architecture, design and implementation objectives).
Serves as focal point for other departments on project status or other project information.
Organizes project through development of a Project Plan.
Ensures productions operations and IT are successfully supporting the enterprise.
Ensures projects are completed according to product specifications and are properly documented:
Implementation of the product satisfies the product specifications.
Product architecture and implementation is maintainable and extendible to accommodate future development and maintenance (architecture documentation and architecture design review).
Ensures that documentation gets appropriate level of technical review support.
Ensures that QA test plans meet the project requirements.
Ensures that appropriate development and corporate methods and procedures are followed.
Collaborate with the CTO, CEO, Product Management, and other business leaders on ensuring successful execution of the technical vision to support enterprise business goals.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
10+ software development experience
5+ years relevant experience managing large, fast-paced and dynamic engineering teams.
Prior successful experience managing offshore development teams.
Experience with high traffic Web applications or very high volume applications using Oracle
Experience with large scale, high performance systems
Experience with Java, Oracle, Unix,
A career emphasis on backend/server side development
Strong background with Object-oriented design and implementation
Strong background in relational database
BS/MS in Computer Science or related technical discipline
Successful track record of recruiting, training, building and managing geographically dispersed technical teams, including the utilization of offshore development resources.
Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment.
Experience overseeing 24/7 production operations
Solid leadership skills, experience building strong engineering teams.
A combination of large and small company experience and the personality traits*collaborative, honesty, integrity, intensity and passion*necessary to blend with the rest of the executive management team.
Strong project-management skills. Proven track record for product delivery. Able to fit in well within an informal startup environment and to provide hands-on management.
Successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Very high technical competence, track record of strong coding and individual technical accomplishments.
