The Import option - Sage 50 Accounts 2010 and above and Sage Instant Accounts v16
Summary
In Sage 50 Accounts 2010 and above and Instant Accounts v16 you can use the Data Import Wizard to import data from Comma Separated (CSV) files and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls and .xlsx). To simplify the process further the software also includes a number of specially designed import templates.
This article explains how to use the new Data Import Wizard.

You can use the Data Import Wizard to import data into Sage Accounts for a number of reasons including:
To add data to Sage Accounts from other software.
To add information to records in bulk without having to edit each individual record.
Before you use the Data Import Wizard, you must check that the information concerned can be imported. For further information about this, please refer to the following section.

Tip: For a complete list of every field that can be imported, to open the software Help system, press F1.
A series of Microsoft Excel templates are available to assist in the formatting of data for import
into Sage Accounts. These templates are held in the program directory: C:Program FilesSageAccounts by default.
The templates include tips indicating the content that should be included in each column. Compulsory fields are highlighted in blue and optional fields are highlighted in yellow.

Note: When importing Journal transactions, Account Reference is not a compulsory field.
Open the File menu and choose Import, click Yes to close any open windows.
We recommend that you take a backup at this point. To do this, click Backup and follow the on-screen instructions.
After taking a backup, to continue with the wizard, click Next.
From the Data type list, select the type of data you want to import, then click Next.
From the Data source window, select the format of the data you are importing. If your data does not have a row of headings, clear the First row contains headings check box.
To browse to the file for import, click Browse. Locate and select the file for import, then click Open. Note: If the import file is made up of multiple worksheets, from the drop-down list, choose the required worksheet.
To continue with the import, click Next.
Use the Field mappings window to link the imported data to the correct fields in Sage Accounts.
Tip: If you have imported data using this wizard before and you saved your field mappings, to restore your mappings, click Load Map, locate the required file and click Open.
Complete the Imported Field column as required, choosing the relevant field from the drop-down list. If you need to remove your selections and start again, click Clear Map. Note: Compulsory fields are marked with an asterisk. Every compulsory field must have a corresponding Imported Field.
Tip: If you intend to make similar imports in the future, to save the mappings, click Save Map, enter a memorable file name and click Save.
Once all of the required fields have been mapped, to continue with the import, click Next.
If the summary information is correct, to begin importing data, click Import.
Sage Accounts 2011 and below -
If the summary information is correct, to begin importing data, click Finish.
Note: If the import is unsuccessful, or errors are encountered in individual lines, problems are recorded in the Records not Imported pane. The original import file must be edited before attempting to import again.
To close the Import Results window and return to your Sage Accounts desktop, click close.
You have now successfully imported data into Sage Accounts.
