Airtel Super Singer is a reality-based Indian singing competition in Tamil language that aired on STAR Vijay. The program seeks to discover the best singing talent in Tamil Nadu through a series of statewide auditions. The show is sponsored by the mobile service provider, Airtel. The show debuted in 2006 and has completed its second season. The winner of event gets a chance to sing a Tamil movie song.[1][2][3]
The show usually airs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights in India and is telecast worldwide through partner broadcasting networks.

[edit] Season 1
The first season of Airtel Super Singer debuted in 2006. Nikhil Mathew was announced the winner and was selected to sing a song, Enadhuyire in the Tamil film, Bheema for the music director, Harris Jayaraj.

Auditions for the 2008 show started on June 27, 2008. Judges had to shortlist from about 10000 canditates from auditions in three cities, Chennai, Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore. Sujatha, Unnikrishnan and Srinivas were the judges of the show. Ajeesh won the competition and was chosen by Yuvan Shankar Raja to sing the song Idhu Varai for the soundtrack of the Tamil film, Goa.[4][5]

The auditions were successfully held in various parts of Tamil Nadu. Then the top 5 Singers were moved into the new Grand Set. The new set was a new one for Airtel Super Singer. The season was hosted by Divya. Saicharan won the competition (on audience votes and not by the judges score) and his prize was a house worth 40 Lakhs given by Temple green Arun Excelo, in oragadam. Santhosh was 1st Runner Up and won a car as his prize. Sathya Prakash (adjudged to be the best performance in finals by the judges.They were badly disappointed and emotional with the final results, as they considered Sathya Prakash to be deserving the winning title) won 2nd Runner Up and his prize was 3 lakhs (IND). And Pooja Vaidyanath was 3rd Runner Up and her prize was 1 lakh (IND). [6]
