Best Computer Monitor?

Best Computer Monitor?

Every good computer needs a good monitor, and this week we want to know which monitors you think rise above the rest. There are, of course, certain qualities that make a monitor a good one: bang for the buck, native resolution, response time, video inputs, and so on—but we're willing to bet there are some displays that most of you would tell anyone to pick up if they wanted a quality display without throwing money away on it. P

We're leaving a lot open here, most notably price and size, but we're okay with a range of displays in the Hive of different sizes and price points if you guys really love them. Let us know which displays you think are the best on the market in the discussions below!P

The call for contenders is closed! To see which of your nominees made the top five, head over to the five best computer monitors to see and vote for the winner!P

Hive Five nominations take place in the comments, where you post your favorite tool for the job. We get hundreds of comments, so to make your nomination clear, please include it at the top of your comment like so: VOTE: BEST COMPUTER MONITOR. Please don't include your vote in a reply to another commenter. Instead, make your vote and reply separate comments. If you don't follow this format, we may not count your vote. To prevent tampering with the results, votes from first-time commenters may not be counted. After you've made your nomination, let us know what makes it stand out from the competition.P

About the Hive Five: The Hive Five feature series asks readers to answer the most frequently asked question we get: "Which tool is the best?" Once a week we'll put out a call for contenders looking for the best solution to a certain problem, then YOU tell us your favorite tools to get the job done. Every weekend, we'll report back with the top five recommendations and give you a chance to vote on which is best. For an example, check out last week's five best android tablets.P

The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it's not because we hate it—it's because it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. We understand it's a bit of a popularity contest, but if you have a favorite, we want to hear about it. Have a suggestion for the Hive Five? Send us an email at tips+hivefive@lifehacker.com!P

Sounds like a good deal. Does that have a 120hz refresh rate? You also mention everything under the sun however I am guessing it does not support Nvidia 3D Vision. In case you are wondering it actually incredible with my 27 inch 3d Asus monitor. I do hear that 2560x1440 is incredible to look at for gaming.

Best bang for the buck has to be any cheap korean 2560x1440p IPS 27" monitor (~$350). I have a Achieva Shimian 27", but there are tons of vendors selling many different brands using the same Apple screens (rated A-) out there selling through eBay (be sure to get a Pixel Perfect one and you're gold).

On a separate note, does anyone know the best monitor fitting the following categories? This is a separate issue since work is gifting everyone with a present $200 or less for Christmas and I want to get a new monitor for myself for work purposes :)

Under $200

IPS screen

1080p (my laptop doesn't support over 1080p - Intel HD4000 issue, it also has GTX 680M)

Bright

Matte screen

Light/thin

Mountable

This covers everything on your list except mountable. Idk if that's a dealbreaker or not though. http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Accessories/Monitors/A9F77AA?HP-2311xi-23-inch-Diagonal-IPS-LED-Backlit-Monitor

also possibly check this one http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VS239H-P-23-Inch-Full-HD-Monitor/dp/B008DWITHI/ref=pd_cp_pc_1

Another vote for this. I bought the cheapie version of the Shimian without the built in scaler for about $285 shipped from Korea. Best dang monitor I've ever owned.
