The Alliance of Metis, Coureurs de Bois, Voyagers and Free Traders effectively manages the North West trade.
The North West Company later replaces the Montreal Company, alias the French Trading Companies.
The Hudson Bay Company  has marginal influence on the North West Territory culture.

The Metis, Coureurs de Bois, Free Traders, French Companies (Montreal Men) and the Indians formed an alliance to manage a business on a continental scale.  They self administered by an elaborate code of conduct; being a blend of European monopolistic methods and Indian democratic free trade arrangements.

As late as 1782, London, England had no idea what lay beyond the Hudson Bay.  Maps of that time have a notation:  "These parts entirely unknown".  The Hudson Bay Company had sat for over 100 years on the Bay of The North (Hudson Bay), content to dabble in a little fur trading.  They only ventured into the interior late this century when the Indians no longer came to the Bay of the North for trade.
