Excellent, patient, supportive one on one instruction in drawing, painting, mixed media. No experience necessary. Absolute beginners welcome. As well as those with experience who want to sharpen their skills, explore process, concept, a variety of materials. Drawing instruction includes basic practices: contour, gesture, searching, value, perspective, composition. Representational and expressive. Work with charcoal, pastel, conte, pencil, water-based paints.
I am 65 year old woman who gives careful, attentive, encouraging instruction. Flexible schedule. Taught art for six years at Penn State University (drawing, painting, a history of modern art); four years at Youngstown State University (beginning-advanced drawing, color and design); drawing/mixed media at California College of the Arts and City College of San Francisco. MFA from California College of the Arts. Studied at the Vrije Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague, The Netherlands. Current lecturer on The Life and Work of Vincent Van Gogh in public and private venues for eleven years.
Comfortable teaching all ages: young persons, teenagers, adults, seniors. Have been a working and exhibiting artist for over 40 years. Work exhibited in museums and galleries in U.S. and Europe, including Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Mellon University, Fullerton Art Museum, Ohio State University, Indiana University of Penn., Artemisia Gallery in Chicago, Paterson Museum of Art in NJ, California Institute of Integral Studies, and the Butler Institute of American Art (which has drawing of mine in their permanent collection). Work featured in Sculpture Magazine. Recipient of the George Sugarman Foundation Grant for 2007-2008.
