Are you...
- Looking for a unique way to keep fit?
- Someone who loves the water and is looking for a team water sport?
- Tired of swimming lonely, boring laps, staring at the endless “black line”?
- A scuba diver looking for something new?
- Interested in meeting new people and having some FUN?!

Underwater Hockey is a fast, action-packed sport played on the bottom of a swimming pool by two co-ed teams of six players who are equipped with mask, snorkel, fins and a short stick. The stick is used to pass a weighted puck from player to player across the bottom of the pool to score into the opposing team’s goal.

Because it’s non-contact and underwater, people of different sizes, ages and genders play on an equal field - it’s not about strength, it’s about teamwork and skill. It’s great cross-training for runners, swimmers and bikers, and because it’s not a “gravity” sport, people with impact-related injuries have a fun way to exercise that’s easy on your body. And, no matter what your skill level, Underwater Hockey is a great way to have lots of fun, get fit, and make new friends!

Yes, it really exists! We’ve been playing here in the Bay Area for over 20 years now and would love to introduce the sport to new players. In addition, Underwater Hockey is an organized sport with clubs playing in over 50 cities across the U.S. and in nearly 30 countries worldwide. There are local and national tournaments each year and even a world level competition – many Bay Area players were part of the gold-medal winning U.S. National teams in last year’s World Championships.

When & Where: San Jose State University Aquatic Center, 8th Street just north of San Salvador, Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Sundays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Sunday New Players League at 3:00 - see below). Pool/club fees are $10 per night ($5 student rates available). First two times are free! Contact hockeybrigit@comcast.net for more information.

NEW PLAYERS: We will be hosting a league for new players on Sundays starting at 3:00 p.m. Anyone interested in giving Underwater Hockey a try is welcome to attend – all you need to bring is a bathing suit and towel (and snorkeling gear if you have your own). We’ll supply equipment, training, and a good time! Please contact Brigit (hockeybrigit@comcast.net) or Kendall (510-585-6627) if you want to attend so we can be sure to have enough gear on hand.

If you want to see what the game looks like in action, check out www.seethegame.info - go to the Video tab, and click on the Club Play video link.

If you can hold your breath long enough to read this sentence, Underwater Hockey is for you!
