KVARNASEN, Sweden, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A Swedish homeowner took pity on an attempted burglar who bungled the job, and served coffee to the suspect before police arrived.

Tomas Holmberg said he and his wife were awakened around 1 a.m. Tuesday by a noise coming from their balcony in Kvarnasen and he investigated to discover a man attempted to break into the residence, TheLocal.se reported Tuesday.

The 21-year-old suspect did not attempt to resist Holmberg, who sat the man down in the kitchen and offered him some coffee while they waited for police.

"He looked forlorn and quite cold so I thought he could use a gulp of coffee," Holmberg told the local Vasterbottens Folkblad newspaper.

Holmberg said the man apologized for the attempted burglary while they waited for officers.
