Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - All is not right with the American health care system, as it appears that because the number of uninsured Americans is so high that insured people are paying more to compensate them.

There are roughly 47 million Americans living without any form of health care coverage, a fact that is putting the country in serious jeperdy of going into serious financial burden over the years to come.

According to the findings of a report released by Families USA, the average American family is paying an additional 1700 dollars a year in premiums to make up for the millions who go without.

This trend occurs because health care providers hike their cost for private insurance plans to reclaim the money they lose when treating people without insurance.

When a doctor treats a person on the Medicare program for example, there is a limit to how much that physician can claim from the program, sometimes far below what the actual treatment actually cost.

Last time this report was released in 2005, the average extra cost applied to an American family was only in the 900 dollar range, meaning that since then the cost has gone up considerably.
