The Webs Family

As we mentioned in last week’s blog post, the three founders of Webs are also brothers. In a way, Webs is like one big family. The employees are the supportive parents. The customers are the kids, full of dreams and potential. And the developers are the aunts and uncles who bring the kids gifts (like Pagemodo).

Have you ever wished that more people would read  an amazing blog post you wrote? Or maybe you took a hilarious picture of your cat that the world needs to see? Well, worry no more because with the help of Webs’ social buttons your cat could have his own fan-made auto-tuned remix in no time.

Just What are Social Buttons?

Social buttons are links that you can place on your website (usually after some content) that let your visitors share that content with their friends with the click of a button. Here at Webs, we are introducing two new social buttons, Twitter and Google, as well as a revamped Facebook button. Using these social buttons can help increase website traffic and increase your SEO ranking.

The Facebook “Like” Button

As you all know, the “Like” button on Facebook is a way for people to show their appreciation for a friend’s status update or picture. Now, though, you can have this button placed anywhere on the web so that Facebookers can share content to Facebook from anywhere! Get To Know the Webs Founders

Webs was founded ten years ago by three brothers: Zeki, Haroon, and Idris Mokhtarzada. Each brother has a specialty: Zeki, who studied Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Maryland (UMD) became Webs’ Chief Technology Officer; Haroon, who studied Economics at UMD became Webs’ Chief Executive Officer; and Idris, who was a teenager when Webs was founded, and who has worked at Webs for almost half his life (!), has become an expert on emerging technologies, product development, and information architecture.

I recently sat down with the brothers to ask them some questions about the company they started a decade ago. They’ve guided, shaped, and evolved Webs ever since, and their passion for Webs is evident in these fascinating clips:

We here at Webs are pretty excited about the 10th anniversary of Webs. To celebrate the company’s 10th birthday in style, we created a special “History of Webs” page for our website that includes:

10th Anniversary: Celebrate & Save

We are turning 10 this month and could not have reached this amazing milestone without our users. Here are a few fun facts about how Webs got started:

  • The three Webs founders are brothers: Zeki, Haroon, and Idris Mokhtarzada
  • The first Webs servers were kept in a closet in Zeki’s apartment in Maryland
  • The company was “accidentally” launched in 2001 thanks to 14-year-old Idris, who submitted Webs (then called Freewebs) to the dmoz.org registry unbeknownst to his older brothers!
